Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce Thursday a temporary GST break on essential items to help with affordability pressures.

I am curious how PEE PEE is going to rail against this measure, hmm.

I wonder if apples are on the list for no GST??

So then you also agree with Doug Ford's recent checks?

Anbarandy? How about you?

It won't help. It will actually be worse because once it comes back people will notice.

You mean "essential items" like video game consoles?

I think it's funny that the Liberals are so desperate to get re-elected that they're adopting Conservative policies.

This will cost Canada $billions.

...just waiting for the Left to lose their shit over this like they do whenever tax cuts are proposed by Conservatives.

How about axing the carbon tax and making a real difference?
I'm willing to bet that if this latest GST political bribery scheme doesn't improve their polling numbers closer to the election, they'll axe the carbon tax as a last resort.

They'll ditch their virtue-signaling and wokeness immediately if they are confident they won't win and need desperate acts of bribery.

What they fail to understand is that giving people a financial break, after you've given them financial burdens for years, is not going to fool anyone and it's too little too late.

Have you ever heard me complain about Dougy's bribe??

I never complain about tax money coming back and I like this because it goes to the average shmo.

A tax cut or a refund that isn't matched by spending cuts during a period of deficits is neither, it's just a tax deferred.

In actual social democratic countries, their VATs are applied both at higher levels and on more goods than we do.
Also VAT taxes are considering one of the less destructive taxes. It's visible so the mouth breathers get all sex nuts and retard strong over it but raising the GST and HST in favor of lowering other taxes would be better policy. But much like what's his face and his Green Shift, that is way to complicated for a population with a 2 second attention span and a borderline retarded level of knowledge on the topic.

Say what you will about their size of government, they have to be keen on raising taxes efficiently. Which is also why they gave up on wealth taxes and other eat the rich policies, but apparently Bernie never got that memo either.

Bad idea, sounds good on the surface but it isn't really. There are other options that would be better. But judging public policy to it's possible alternative, sigh, why am I ghey.

Also Jospeh Heath argues quite correctly that the solution to something being too expensive isn't subsidizing it [which this basically is] and sure as hell not price controls but working on the income side. Then you let people allocate their resources based on what they need on a neutral basis.

Also pretty much all the important shit is already GST free. Actual proper food, escorts. Funny how in the thumbnail the foreground is fruits which don't have the GST.

All that being said Pierre Poulet will never actually bring up the problems with this policy because even if he understands it [Harper would], he would know that your average voter doesn't know nor care.

Too long, didn't read. Everyone likes paying less tax [well almost everyone. But
1: With a deficit it isn't possible and
2: There are more efficient ways to lower the tax bill

Lowering the GST bad, [even when Harper did it on everything], picking favorites even worse. That is some Justin Beiber level bullshit there.

Just what we need. More of Trudeau's Wackonomics.

Read between the lines. He's projecting a weak holiday shopping season, so he's trying anything to avoid a growth decline.

But it doesn't address real issues like wealth.

Question,

are you just salty because Dougie's $200 and Justin's $250 are still not enough to get you a ticket to a Beiber concert?

Why, so Pee Pee can claim victory?

Question, since the carbon tax is such a bad thing, do you return the rebate cheque to the government in protest?
We all return it because it just goes back to them in carbon tax anyway.

Question for you: When did you start liking getting bribed with your own money?

Ah, well yeah, this was the reason for the rebate, you know , to offset the cost but for the poor who do not have a car, or own property actually is a benefit but hey, that doesn't fit into Skoob facts.

Question, is Dougie bribing you with your own money? Question, will you send Doug's check back and tell him to shove it up his fat ass as you will be doing with the cheque Justin sends you. Of course, you will be returning Justin's as well asking him to shove it up his skinny ass no??

So many thing wrong with this vote buying scheme from the libitards.
First, no reason to take GST off booze or restaurant meals. Those I would call luxury items.
That $150,000 should be a lot lower. More like $60,000, and made available to anyone who has an income of less than 60,000 not just those who worked in 2023.
How about children's clothes and diapers GST free permanently.
How about no GST/ on home heating(NG/ heating oil), electricity and water/sewer bills permanently. You know, essentials of life.

Justin has gone from increasing Capital gains taxes to know saying we don't need GST (Only for a couple months though), which we clearly know he needed.

He has no clue what he's doing and is still trying to chase headlines. A chase he continues to lose.

The title of this thread should read "GO AWAY JUSTIN GOOOOOOO"
