Never thought I'd see the day when North Americans would embrace bittersweet. Aperol, a liquor made from blood oranges has become very popular. The Aperol Spritz has become the aperitif of choice in Italy, most of all Rome.

Was Anthony Bourdain a functioning alcoholic?
Yes he was. But i think his problems were drug use and depression. Well its kind of all related.

I was a functioning alcoholic. I got so sick of it. I stopped all by myself. It was horrible but made it. That said I never was the genius Bourdain was. I have been dry for many months now with no intention of ever drinking again.

Always loved Negroni. Yet my drink of choice was Canadian Club, Ginger Ale and lime.

I still have red and white wine, along with Brandy, that I strictly use for cooking. There again I can cook good but never like Bourdain ;)

You can be a functioning alcoholic for years because alcohol actually makes you perform all your daily task without anyone noticing, and often you will perform better. I fooled twice police barrage while drunk. That is a functional alcoholic indeed.

A regular alcoholic wont go unnoticed for long. They perform poorly, sleep everywhere and tends to get in trouble easily with their relatives, employers and often police...

But down the road both will need to end at some point. By Sicknesses, death or rehabilitation. I did my rehab all alone. No AA meetings. I would not recommend it yet its doable.

Since I got Sirius/XM, I miss Kim Mitchell.

Never had a Negroni, can't even thiink about it unless the oncologist says I'm in remission. Christmas dinner was very tasty but difficult.

The same applies to Marijuana and illegal drugs use. I seen both once I was shown.
And also some need intervention and others don't.

A functioning alcoholic can drink a few drinks every night get buzzed maybe get wasted on weekends or even wasted during the week and still hold a job most dont suveeed this task as the disease progresses. They either need a new liver or they die younger than most.

I cut my drinking in half... I joined "A"

Martini sweet vermouth with Fresca ( or any lemon lime soda ) with a lemon slice.

The best way to serve it is how my lady friend with benefits serves it to me. Naked in her bed on my side using her computer and she is naked on her side behind me with her chin on my shoulder watching me benefiting her by enhancing her portfolio.

GTA & Thereabouts...
I’m taking another crack at eliminating alcohol out of my life. I’m super-high functioning, but I know I’m going to die.
