I am sure more players shoot left handed than right handed. This is because more players are actually right handed.
My understanding is the dominant hand should be on the top of the hockey stick which gives better control when stick handling as well as when your one-handing the stick. It also has something to do with balancing after a slap shot is better on your dominant leg.
Most right handers also use their dominant hand to hold the top of the shovel, similar to the hockey sticks
