With the Christmas season here and the Blood services campaigning for donors:: How many are confident enough about there sexual practices too give blood.
Being a review board I would think the answer would be no blood :???

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
They ask ALOT of questions about your sexual oreintation/history, have you ever paid money for sex, have you ever had sex with someones background you don't know, traded drugs or money for sex, have you ever had a blood test solely for the purpose of testing for HIV/Aids, what places you've visited ie France, Africa, Europe...some of the questions are similar and it's almost like they're trying to trap you.

I feel good about donating, I just don't like all the same questions every time.

i don't think you're allowed to give blood if you've paid for sexual services.

With money? :D

Jeez every guy on this planet has paid for sex - there is the begging, the pleading, the whining, the divorce, etc. we all must do to get some.

Bottom line, save for the strip club only people - nope we can't donate (unless it's a special deal at the hospital for a particular patient - IF they will do so). Further I believe it's a lifetime ban.

What if you've tested clean for everything and haven't paid for FS since?
You can (and should) check but it's my understanding that its an "lifetime" type thing. I think it's just easier for them from a paperwork point of view.*

Very weird thread. Anyone can give blood. The process for screening blood is incredibly clean and safe. Especially after the whole tainted blood scandal here a few years ago. This whole discussion about we (terbites) can't give blood is stupid. Risky behaviour? Please. I was much riskier when I was in college!!! I am AB+ and get calls all the time to give blood on an emergency basis. I give about once every month.

Glad to read this. I was starting to feel very stigmatized!!

Do they ask is you've been tested?
Every time you give blood now in Canada they test your blood or it doesn't get into the system. If there is a problem - HIV, hepatitis, west nile, cooties, whatever, they will contact you. It's the law now after the whole tainted blood scandal and lawsuit.

There are all kinds of rules about who can and can't give blood. I can't give blood because I've lived in the UK for a period of time. Apparently I might be carrying mad cow disease. While I think this is stupid and I'd like to give blood, I'm not going to lie to do it.

100% understood. please understand i wasn't vilifying you.
but with expiry dates on blood now half the time they once were those of us with rare blood types NEED to donate ~ well everybody needs to donate but we especially.
i've often been told that if I get into an accident or need a transfusion near my home it very well might be my own blood i get!

I can't find anything for Blood Services Canada but looking at an American Red Cross Blood Services website for just across the border I see that at least as far as they are concerned I was mistaken it is not a lifetime ban for clients.

The following are not permited to donate (two lifetime bans, two one year bans):

Sex -- For men and women: Within the last 12 months had
sex with a prostitute or anyone else who takes money or
drugs or other payment for sex.

Sex -- For men and women: Received money or drugs for
sex since 1977.

Sex -- For women: Within the last 12 months had a male sex
partner who had sex with another man, even once, since 1977.

Sex -- For men: Had sex even once with another man since
1977

I was a regular blood donor but haven't given since I started hobbying two years ago.

Went recently and while I didn't admit I hobby, I said I had sex with someone I met on-line whose background I didn't know - but that it was protected sex. Nurse told me that I had to wait at least 6 months before I could give again.

I wasn't going to give anyway as I had taken some medication that morning and was going to mention it after she got through the sex questions. I wanted to know more out of curiosity how they handle it.
