There is not enough money in the world for me to hook myself up to a lie detector in front of friends and family and answer questions on virutally any subject.
Years ago during a drug investigation in the military, it was requested by the MP's that I allow myself to be subject to a lie detector examination. My RSM (sergeant major) recommended that I NOT DO IT, even though I had nothing to hide. He said that there had been other cases where individuals had taken the examination and the questioning had extended far beyond the original parameters and the individual ended up being charged with some other completely unrelated crime based upon the "evidence" of the lie detector examination. (Remember that the military has quite a different system of justice then the one most Canadians are used to). I declined, and was fine. Eight of my co-workers were charged for drug use or involvement and convicted. I was not involved, but I had my suspicions and it was those "suspicions" that the MP's wanted to question me about. The RSM advised me to keep my own counsel and not become involved.
For the record, Lauren Cleri didn't actually agree that she had been a thief - what she said was that it was true that she had "been fired from a job for stealing money" While it may seem that one follows the other, the fact that she was fired for "stealing money" does not in fact mean the she was stealing, only that she had been "fired" for that act. She could in fact have been innocent of the act, but was fired anyway.
