You could always throw it in one of the bins behind a plaza somewhere... that is how I always dispose of the stuff that I cannot put in my garbage at home.
If its busted, call a junk remover. I know each municipal region in Toronto has a junk removal service. You have to call, and they come on a particular day in your neighbourhood to collect tossed out furniture.
that's the prob, it's kaput.
think ill have to call a junk removal service.
could have sworn i heard or read something about a place that would recycle parts from a tv.
in Durham we have a recycling centre that takes old appliances and TV's, batteries etc..... Im sure there has to be a dump/recyling centre out your way CC.
Sheiks idea works wonders too. Just because something is free someone will snap it up. Its amazing how fast things are scooped up off a front lawn
My uncle was an old TV. He loved putting on a woman's dress. Once we found him in the attic trying on my mothers wedding dress. We sent him to a psych hospital. Not sure if leaving him on the curb is a good idea.

There really is no danger to an old TV, EXCEPT ,the high Vacum of the CRT. Most Manufacturers provided a nipple at the Cathode end (non-screen end ) that could be broken off to safely equalize the vacum..
Do this with a pair of side-cutters. Then send it to the trash.
Volia!
