Democracy is over in the US. Not everybody knows it yet... but it's done.

I read a piece suggesting that the voter disenfranchisement thing could come back and bit the GOP in the arse.
It suggested that old republicans are the ones most likely to have ID issues and want to vote by mail.

Maybe... but GOP control enough at the State level, which runs elections... they are emboldened, and nobody is making any arrests. They suppress votes... gerrymander the districts... look at clown show going on now in Arizona. The GOP do not like the election results so they hired "their people" to recount. It's over.

Once they get control again, and they will... they will legislate the most racist, selfserving laws to protect themselves you have ever seen. Donald Trump at least had some of the old guard to try to keep him check. The new batch of uneducated Patriots representing the GOP have seen what Trump did.

It's over. The GOP long game is better.

the devil is in the details
from your link

Raffensperger -- who was censured at the Georgia GOP convention earlier this month -- has received harsh criticism from those in his own party for stating that Biden won Georgia in November and for refusing to help former President Donald Trump overturn the results of the election after his loss.
He declared Biden the winner in Georgia, despite pressure from Trump & now you claim he is killing democracy?

"The 101,789 obsolete voter files that will be removed include 67,286 voter files associated with a National Change of Address form submitted to the U.S. Postal Service;
These people moved out of Georgia..... so they should not vote in Georgia
Americans move interstate a lot, but are only entitled to vote once

34,227 voter files that had election mail returned to sender;
These people moved ...... where, who knows?

and 276 that had no-contact with elections officials for at least five years," the statement says. "In each of these cases, the individual had no contact with Georgia's elections officials in any way - either directly or through the Department of Driver Services - for two general elections."
In addition to the "obsolete and outdated" files, Georgia also removed "18,486 voter files of dead individuals based on information received from Georgia's Office of Vital Records and the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), an interstate partnership of 30 states and the District of Columbia focused on maintaining accurate voter rolls
Yeah the rights of the dead are being badly abused
Ballot box stuffing with dead people votes has been a problem for decades

All of the above seem like very practical and legitimate reasons to clean up voter registration

The effort to remove 101,789 names from Georgia's voter files marks the first time the state has conducted a "major cleaning" since 2019, but Georgia regularly removes the voter files of convicted felons and the dead on a monthly basis, according to the statement.
You can not vote here in Canada if you are not a registered, & you need to show ID but apparently voter registration in the US is the end of democracy there ??

In the state of Georgia there was an Increase of 1.79 million registered voters from the 2016 election, a 33% increase. +805K from the 2018 gubernatorial election.
100,000 names were removed, most likely because they are dead, illegal or left the state. Damn that voter suppression!

Is removing dearly departed African America voters from the rolls racist?

Its a bit of a race against time, isn't it?
Demographics are changing and the GOP base gets smaller every year.
Now the party is getting more extreme and crazier and pushing harder to destroy the electoral system in their favour as the only route left to power to them.

So its a race to see if they can screw the system over enough before the demographics really make it hard.

Why is this not an issue in all the advanced democracies such as Canada and the EU nations, but in so called "greatest nation" on this planet?? Not referring to all the states but certain ones that seem to want to somehow turn their State from Republican to a Banana Republic!!
Could they not have conducted some legitimate Census Programs?? Shows how inept and incapable these Republicans are to the extent that they have to start some controversial moves that are not transparent in the very least. Will not be surprised if many of those voters now realize that they cannot vote as they are supposed to have "departed from earth"!!

Unlike Canada and the EU, the US has allowed voting without ID in many states (usually Democrat controlled) for ages. Furthermore, their voting is far more complex because on voting day they are voting for many different things - governors, senators, congressmen, judges, DA's, propositions etc.

So the strictest voter ID laws are in States like Georgia. Yet they claim to have had "voter fraud" in the last elections. There has to be some transparency in the manner in which they have removed these 100,000 or so voters from the Ballot Box. Once again if these Republicans cannot even run free and fair elections then they do not deserve to running the States. After all the most recent ones that have been convicted of voter fraud are several Republicans!!

In Canada the voting rights of the dead are much more restricted than in Georgia. You can, however, still be drafted by a CFL team:
