Sad, but it seems to me to be a long time ago since I can recall watching a not in reruns Cheers episode. So not totally unexpected.
He and Ratzenberger - Cliff -were great character actors and foils for the main roles of the series.

Norm and Cliff were the Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton of the 1980's. A toast to George. RIP.

Just saw that on CNN. He died on the anniversary. RIP. A local bar that I used to frequent had a slightly larger than life wooden statue of Norm on a bar stool as part of the decor. At the bar. Made me look twice when I first went there. It was that good.
RIP Norm. Met him in the 90’s in a restaurant in Chicago at the height of Cheers popularity. Everyone would just call out ”Norm!” to him and he’d graciously acknowledged us. Seemed like such a nice guy irl.
