This is a thread wishing you all good health. I just came back from the doctors office, and she said that Everything is A-OK but there is room for improvement. My cholesterol rating was rated 5.2 ( normal rating is 5.0 ) So I am slightly over and can cut down on the fats and sugar. I was quite worried since I had never had a full check up with full test on blood and urine. The results were 12-15 pages long.

I have my appointment to visit my urologist in November, she will finger the cats ass and tell me if everything is OK there as well. She also had me do full blood and urine test.

Here are some suggestions on keeping yourself healthy :

I bought a blood pressure monitor at the drug store this summer and have been taking my blood pressure several times a day. This makes me aware of my health. When I eat salty foods my BP goes up, then I abstain on canned soups and cold cuts. Knowing if your BP is high helps you to pace yourself and calm down.

I do not eat sugar on purpose, I only get it in processed foods. I use artificial sweeteners, buy you can cut down to half and still get satisfactory sweetness by mixing Splenda with Equal.
( I buy Presidents Choice house brand sweeteners, it is the same stuff as name brands )

Gentlemen, put you improve your heath suggestions here!

On this we will agree. Don't add salt, don't add sugar, moderate you fat intact, and stay active.

Don't be fooled by your total cholesterol. It's the ration between your HDL (good) and your LDL (bad) that's important. You want your HDL to be greater than your LDL. My total cholesterol always gets flagged for being over 5.0 but that's because last time my HDL was 2.99 and my LDL was 2.11 which is good. A ratio of 2-1 is excellent.

The other thing to look at is your triglycerides. The lower the number the better. Target is <1.71 and mine came in at 0.41.

My doctor did not explain much to me except that my cholesterol was slightly elevated. They spend about 10 minutes with each patient. If it is only slightly elevated, I will assume it is better than most other people.

Get down on your knees every morning and thank the lord

Don't cats have 9 lives?
Yes, yes they do! What good is nine lives if you do not live them in health? Have you ever been to the front door of a hospital where you will find on the coldest days of the winter people standing there in their bath robe and pajamas smoking a cigarette while hacking and holding one to one of those hospital pole stands where they have their colostomy bag hanging? Their health is shot and they persist to smoke and make it worse. The end for these people will not be pleasant.

Of course, if you are unable to do that, it may be a sign that you are already dead!

In which case, just say "Oh, shit!" and go back to bed.

Our fate is in our genes (jeans?). One of my former bosses was thin (26" waist), never smoked, contracted cancer and passed at age 56.

On the occasion of Rock's 100th birthday a small group of media and minor politicians gathered to wish him happy happy and asked for the secrets of his longevity. Then they all heard loud music and banging from a nearby room and the media folks wondered what the heck was going on. Rock said: "Oh, that is my 130 year old father drinking, smoking, stuffing himself with food and fornicating with young women."

Thanks for the well wishes Celling Cat, it's appreciated. Hopefully I'll start feeling like my old self once the bastard concussion clears.

If you want to lower your triglycerides start your mornings with a bowl of oatmeal. It worked for me, I'm now off the Crestor.

For fun check your blood pressure after having a doobie. I am normally high pressure 150/80 average but when I test it after I smoke it has gone down to the 90's/60's.

The only thing you have to worry about is elevated LDL and Triglycerides. Ask them for a copy of the results so you can see for yourself. Go every year, keep the copies so you can see if you numbers are going in the right direction, or not. That's what I do.
