Due to no regulatory body to check and balance of prices of gas and new automobiles the gian companies in oil and automobiles are just ripping off canadian consumers, and making their lives miserable, due to so-called open economy policies of our beloved country where the intrest of general citizen is just of no value, whereas the big fat oil companies, and automobile manufacturers are minting money and there is no check at all for anyone to even bring them to some financial discipline in Canada inspite of forthcoming Federal Elections, except Jack Layton of NDP declared that if his party is elected to power (present popularity 19%) is going to form a Gas Regulatory Commission to look into the Gas Prices, and keep a check and balance on big oil companies who are practically looting a common man and making huge profits.
Its so unfortunate, that one under developed country in Asia, which is known as most corrupt country in the world has even decreased gas retail prices twice in just one month's time, as the international market for crude oil had gone considerable down from $147.00 to 97~95 per barrel, thus the retail price of Regular Gas in Toronto should not even exceed over .90cents per litre
whereas still we are in the range from 1.12 to 1.26 per litre since last week
which is really very shameful and disgusting. Even the new cars are much more cheaper across the border, whereas in Canada their prices are higher by nearly 6~8,000 for normal middle size cars and the difference for premium cars varies from 8,000 to over 14,000 per vehicle, which is another set back for citizens of canada, which is one of the highest taxed countries in the world. TSX is in bad shape, and even the housing market is also slipping, and prices of food has increased by many folds but still there is no increase in wages of normal canadians. Even the car lease prices in Canada is much higher than across the border, a Mercedez Benz car of E-Series is still availabe @ monthly lease of 500~550 PM whereas the same vehicle offered by their conterpart in Canada is for 12~1400 Lease per month, which is really very annoying &
really sad state of affairs for our country and its citizens.

Sounds like Communism to me. A Communist run-on sentence...my greatest nightmare.

I love how he's yakking away about the common man yet talking about Mercedes E series cars. Getting a little elitist there, comrade?

funny. I didn't even read the OP's post. I got a headache after the first line.

Anyhow, we do have a regulator - capitalism. It may not be for every car out there, but options exist, and local retailers know it. The beauty of free trade.
Unfortunately in a near monopolistic industry where there is collusion, free market parameters are not enough to control prices.

...as far as I am concerned, if there is collusion, you don't have capitalism.
