I wonder how long it will be before Dalton does as some other provinces have done with their metropolitan areas and imposes a 5-10 cent per litre tax on gasoline purchased within the GTA?

I guess the new 'bottom price' for a few hours on Mon night this week will be around 79 cents.....we can all sing the hallelujah Chorus and be eternally greatful for the largesse of the 'Big Four'!! As a marketing strategy it is totally insulting to consumers!

Well, it's Mon night again and according to the cheap gas website, the lowest prices at the 15 gas stations listed around toronto area is 76.9 to 77.9 cents per litre.......

This website is at:-

www.TorontoGasPrices.com

When you find the site, create a shortcut on your desktop for future reference......at these new prices we will all be checking every Monday for the rest of the summer!

I think that I will start driving that extra 10 minutes across the border to Blaine WA to fill up.. I think I will come out about 20 cents per litre

Gas prices will always be high, because we are all too lazy to walk. The oil companies know they can make a buck on us, so why not. Just like cigarettes and liquour it is a money grab, always has and always will.
What would it take for us to protest, no matter what we still will fill up our cars.
The car companies have invented alternatives to gas, but the powers that be (gov't etc) does not want us to have it.
Prices of gas seem to vary all over the world. Funny thing is that in Iraq before the war, they could fill up there cars for $5.00.

It is all economics. Oh yeah the Bush Family has part ownership in Chevron/Pennzoil.

I think I've heard enough comments about how the price of gas here compares with prices in Europe. Sure, gas might be more expensive over there compared to here -
But how about this for a comparison? In many parts of western Europe, a full tank of gas will get you from one end of the country to the other. You won't get away with that over here!

Probably because the smaller European cars (in most instances) are designed to give 40 to 60 mpg!

However, the price of gas in UK/Europe is totally irrelevant to whats going on in Canada with the Big Four.......

We are part of the N American economy, and if you buy your gas in Buffalo USA, the price difference between Regular gas and Premium is 10 to 12 cents per U.S. gallon (approx 4 litres)
The difference in Canada is 300% to 500% greater! WHY??
Canadian taxes don't explain it!
Also, in USA the price is fairly stable, whereas in Canada we have a line-up fiasco at the pumps for cheaper gas every Mon night for a few hours, then the price jumps 10 cents a litre around 8.30 p.m. WHY??
Canadian taxes don't explain it!
Finally, we have a useless government enquiry after enquiry which confirms no collusion between the Big Four, yet their prices go up and down in unison with the precision of 4 trained seals!!
WHY??
Why, in a FREE market economy, did the Big FOUR set out on a deliberate policy to kill the independent competition??
Why did our governments allow it to happen??
Why did Paul Martin, as Finance Minister, introduce a temporary
gas surtax in the 1990s to fight the deficit at that time, and now, as Prime Minister, he sees no reason to remove it??
( a good question when one of his yesmen comes knocking on your door looking for your vote!)
In Canada, the industry would rather bribe us with our own money by selling gas at high prices then offer us their useless 'points' programs....and most of us have NO CHOICE but to buy it!!
For now, I will continue to buy only for my minimum needs when prices are high.....and fill my tank when prices are low! Also, I will check TorontoGasPrices.com to determine where I buy. Hopefully a new government will bring in the reforms that this industry so badly needs! Probably not, but public pressure may help!

Just an interesting thought.

Gas prices are highest (and I quote) "in almost 14 years."

14 years ago, we were paying about $0.55/litre at the pump.

hmmmmmmmmm

History shows us that the gas price always rises near the May long weekend ? So I believe that we can expect the gas price to hit an all time high by around then. 10 days from now lets see what happens.
