As everybody's hobbying budget is being squeezed through spiralling Energy and Utility costs I thought we could exchange ideas on conserving. Let me know what and what does not make sense. Here is what comes to mind:

- replace lighting with neon bulbs, motion sensors on hall lights
- throw out the 20 year old fridge in the garage
- turn off constant electricity drains, unit is off, but still consumes energy, TV, entertainment unit, CPU, microwave
- drive average speed of 90 kmh (on highway), use slow acceleration in town, ie. be a granny driver
- add water savers to faucets, taps and toilets
- keep Air Con at 26 degrees, enough to get the humidity out
- take the bike to the store
- pick up groceries on the way home from work, not with a separate trip
- close air vents for basement, and other less frequently used rooms
- utilize woodstove or fireplace with blower

Love to hear more suggestions.

Between a rock and a hard place
- replace lighting with neon bulbs [I use 32watt enersavers. Cant see shit but I save energy]
- motion sensors on hall lights [they are never on]
- throw out the 20 year old fridge in the garage [done. I gave it away on freecycle]
- turn off constant electricity drains, unit is off, but still consumes energy, TV [TV can be turned off?] entertainment unit, CPU, microwave[done]
- drive average speed of 90 kmh (on highway), use slow acceleration in town, ie. be a granny driver [I take the TTC]
- add water savers to faucets, taps and toilets [I seldom bathe and when it's yellow I let it mellow]
- keep Air Con at 26 degrees, enough to get the humidity out [dont have none]
- take the bike to the store [won't the paddles from the defribrilator consume too much energy?]
- pick up groceries on the way home from work, not with a separate trip [I do one big trip every two weeks. All small trips for milk and bread in the interim are done on foot]
- close air vents for basement, and other less frequently used rooms [fresh air circulating from outside is all I got]
- utilize woodstove or fireplace with blower [dont have either]

Oh my god I'm a hippy.

Install a clothes line...don't forget the liquid fabric softener or you may have 'crispy' clothes!! :)
This is a huge saving if you do a lot of laundry, and the bedsheets smell/feel great!!

I've been doing this for the last few days. My gas mileage is up 25% but I'm pissing off a lot of other drivers, especially the truckers.

Clothes-lines are a by-law infringement in my community
Stupid asinine politicians and developers (some of them, anyway) prefer we freeze in the dark in the name of 'curb appeal'. There would be a similar by-law regarding antennas in the neighbourhood so that Rogers can get fatter. However, I see a LOT of dishes in my neighbourhood!

Queenspak should outlaw such bylaws!

Really Retired.....REALLY!
I know, it is such a stupid by-law isn't it.

They are BEGGING us to reduce our energy consumption but we can't hang our clothes in OUR OWN yards to avoid using the dryer.

Yeah politicians are smart

My neighbors underwear drying in the wind never really gets clean. It doubles as a flag for Angola. I can sympathize with the bylaw.
