The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed centre Mikhail Grabovski to a five-year contract extension ...

Wow imagine if he was having a great year . For Those who think Burke can do no wrong you will be cheering this signing as a genius move but all other fans will be saying WTF .

I don't think B.B. is perfect, but for those who will claim that he way overpaid for Grabovski: I recently saw this on twitter:

"RICK NASH! IS THE SAVIOUR!" (7.8M+TradeAssets, 47PTS, 65GP) "GRABOVSKI GOT TOO MUCH MONEY FIRE BURKE!" (5.5M, 45PTS, 59GP)

With uncertainty over the next labour agreement, I think this is a horrible deal for a second line center.

I do not know if I would go as far as 'horrible', but I agree in part. Overpaid for Grabovski.

Way over paid, but with this years UFA market, there is no replacing even a timid second liner like Grabs.

I don't care about the salary so much as the term. I agree finding even a second line C is difficult but five years? Five years when we're approaching yet more labour uncertainty?

Ron Wilson isn't the only problem for the leafs. Brian Burke is the guy we need to let go. He's put us on some big hook contracts for players that aren't worth their value.

LOL, ya. Like Ferguson Jr never did that before him.
Money is the least of the Leafs problems. They have very little talent, at any price.

I think it's a fair deal. Garbo has really started to prove himself at both ends of the ice and he has a good work ethic. Secondary scoring is good to have on any team and when you have a second line center putting 30 in the net, that is a big help.

I fully agree.

Burke should have traded Grabs at the deadline, then sought him back out in July. Instead of picking up a solid draft pick now, or getting a 'hometown discout', he got neither.
The max should have been 4.25 for 3yrs. Contracts of 4yrs and longer scare me. I think of past flops deals like Jagr ( Caps ), Ov ( Caps ) or Kovelav (Habs ) all of which were saw huge drop off in production.

I like Grabs a ton, but he is just a 2nd line guy, and his lack of physical play hurts the deal for me. Burke promised a tough team, yet fills the roster with Kessel, MacAurther, Grabs, and Connelly. He has missed out on past movement like Ladd, Byfuglien, Horton, and Neal. Imagine the Jets without Ladd and Byfuglien and Toronto with them.
4.25 x 3 doesn't come close to getting Grabo re-signed. There was no hometown discount, but he signed for market value...what he would get on this summer's weak free agent market. Personally, I was hoping for 5m x 4 years but Grabo's agent knew he had Burkie over the barrel on this one.
