This season I don't give a rat's ass about the NHL. I hope the games are played in front of empty arenas.

A lot of fans are telling the NHL to eff off, let's see if they stay true to their word and keep away from the arenas. I'm sure the ACC will be sold out the first game back.

I hope not. They don't deserve a season after this bullshit.

80 percent of seats in ACC belong to corporate folks who bought them for 5 years. So regardless of how leafs perform, they will still get paid. Leaf fans are such suckers. The company does not give a shit if they win the cup or not cuz they already know that they are hot shit and the fans are locked in for 5+ years. Even the players don't give a shit. They play/work like government workers.

I didn't realize people are still spouting this stupid, old and totally fallacious theory. Having a competitive, winning team would return profits that dwarf whatever more they'd have to spend.

In case you didn't know, businesses try to maximize profits, not just be profitable, and winning a cup would allow them to do just that. It would make current profits look like piggy bank savings.

For all their many other faults, MLSE knows what will make them the richest. The greed is there. They just haven't been smart enough, which is a different matter all together than not caring.

People aren't going to stay away from the games, especially season ticket holders who have already paid for their seats. BUT......I would like to see a symbolic gesture on the part of NHL fans everywhere, to show their displeasure over yet another $$$$ dispute. Like at the first game in every arena, when the puck is dropped for the first time, the fans stand, and turn away from the ice. Turn your backs on the game, like the game turned its back on the fans. Not gonna happen, but it's in my "Things I'd like to see" category.

People are all talk, yes it would be nice for the majority of fans to send a message and not buy tickets, but it's not going to happen. The fans will be back and after about 10 games or so everything will be back to normal and the fans will have forgotten about the lockout. The new CBA is 10 years so there won't be anymore lockouts in the NHL for the next decade.

Fans in Canada will be back in droves as usual. we just can't help it. South of the border will be a different story. Except for the traditional US cities that have supported teams for years those southern teams that have struggled to get by could really be in worse shape than before.

I'm glad hockey's back, but I have a feeling the quality of play is going to be horrific.

NHL can be boring and choppy and non-fluid with all the clutching and grabbing and blocked shots when everyone is in-season form, now you add guys that are out of shape and haven't played real hockey in 8 months? Yikes, glad the NBA is still on.

I was just as infuriated with the stench of greed emanating from both the owners and the NHLPA as anyone else, but I am ashamed to admit that after watching some news and interviews with some of the Leafs (Reimer, Phaneuf, Liles) and watching some highlights from last season, I am actually excited to watch the mad scrambling to sign players, ice teams and watch them sprint furiously to make the playoffs. I also miss Don Cherry and Burke's interviews. I want to see the Leafs get Luongo and go on a run.

That could be interesting.

The playoffs are always the best part of the year. That should not change.

The only reason I'm glad they're back now is that there will be something besides crappy basketball on TV.

I also think the season should be shorter, say 74 games, and instead of 16 teams making the playoffs (the same number as when the league was only 21 teams, thus back in the day only 5 teams didn't make the playoffs), have let's say 24 teams make the playoffs, and the first round be a best of 5. This eliminates the mid-season doldrums and also allows teams on the fringe of playoff spots to play sudden death.
