As much as I'd love this show to continue for much longer, I'd rather see them go out on a high note, rather than stretch things out into mediocrity like many shows do. Viewership is still increasing, but barely; certainly not at the rate from seasons 1 - 4. Between 1 & 2, the average viewership increased 50%. 2 to 3 increased 31%, 3 to 4 increased 38%, 4 to 5 only 0.5% (an indication of season 5 being mediocre), and finally 5 to 6 increased 12%.
The slowdown may be because the audience is peaking, becoming fatigued, or because people are seeing the show in alternate ways (ie filesharing), or likely all three.
I think the show had 20 more hours left in it, but your could certainly make a case for 13.
