Rebates are based on various levels of efficiency. Rebates for a 94.0% AFUE furnace with a brushless DC motor is $1300 (Feds and Ont) plus the OPA (Ontario Power Authority ) of between $250 to $400 and then for a 14.5 SEER air conditioner there is another $500 (Feds and Ont), and finally there is the money from the Home Renovation Tax Credit (take $1000 off your total allowable expenses, then 15% of that amount - ie if total allowable of $8,600 less $1000 = $7,600 x .15 = $1140 back on income tax.
Damn! Where were all these rebates when I installed my new HE furnace and new central air in September 2006? The $500 central air rebate was available only if you were replacing an existing energy guzzler and you had to show the "plate" of the old A/C that was decommisioned.
