One thing I cannot figure out about the fur industry and how hated one is if you wear fur now. I know many animals are mistreated in the making of fur coats but if there could be some standards set in terms of animal welfare, fur is actually very enviromentally sound and better than man made materials. Just look at all the toxins produced to make synthetic fibres? I know there are chemicals used in treating the pelts but all man made synthetic fur is basically plastic and we all know how bad that is.....

Animals are killed for food too. Heck dogs and cats are killed just because nobody wants them.

I think T-boy raised some good points. Furs can last a very long time too.

I think part of the hate of people wearing furs is because they cost $$$. You don't see the same hate of people who buy ground hamburger meat.

PETA is against KFC because of how their chickens are raised and killed, they do not say don't eat any chicken--most of them.

Canadian mink and fox breeders must adhere to a strict code of standards re the care of the animals they farm. It has been in place for 20 years but you won't here about it from PETA and other animal rights terrorist groups. Also consumers should look for the "Origin Assured" label when shopping for fur garments or fur trimmed garments. This label is present only if the fur comes from a country where standards of care are enforced, Canada ,US, Denamrk, Finland , Holland are some examples.
