Hi all

I am going for a full body health check up today including blood work in Toronto. Do you know whether this will include STI tests? I don’t want them to do any STI test that will then go on my record (I prefer to do these somewhere like the hassle free clinic where it’s anonymous)

Thanks

If you’re single, I wouldn’t care. If you’re married, I understand.

Usually a full checkup won't include STI tests. Those need to be requested specifically from your family doctor.

If you want to do STD tests but don't want to walk into a lab or free clinic where you are embarrassed to be in front of nurses or lab technicians, find doctors who draw their own blood samples (mine still does that). Then the only person you have to communicate face to face with regarding getting such tests is your doctor whom I assume you feel comfortable with.

At times I wish my family doctor was my own and not my wife’s and kids’ too. I don’t go as I don’t think things will be private.

I had one done a year ago. It was fantastic (see pic below). They did take a sample of my semen (see same pic below). Apparently, I can still produce babies

You might have to go to Hassle Free and don't say anything.

Tell your GP what tests you want. Remind your doctor that the results must be confidential.

If the doctor prescribes me Cialis and I didn't want wifey to know then the doctor needs to respect that. If not your life is wrecked then the doctor get sued. Loose-Loose for all parties.

There is only one proper way to produce semen for testing. Yeah I know, it took 4 attempts to produce a sample.

If you want 'confidential' STI tests, just go to teletest.ca.

For confidentiality, please consider;

  • HOWEVER, your doctor can get them if they actually make an effort to look for them. This might be true of Drop In sites if the Drop In sites ask for your OHIP number. If they ask for your OHIP card, it's NOT all that anonymous.
  • If you go to Lifelabs and have an account where you see results, they will automatically show up there. Change your user name and phone the Lifelabs' help line to ensure test results show up on that new user name as well. Only one 'account' allowed as the database is keyed on your OHIP number. However, if you have a SO that knows your Lifelabs account information, this could be problematic. Use a different lab but then check for results on the teletest site.
  • For STIs, you want 3 tests, urine, blood and herpes (HSV1 - who cares - and HSV2) is a separate test. Tests are only low $30s so no big deal right?
  • Blood tests (suspect Herpes as well) can't usually be seen on the Lifelabs site as these go to Public Health usually but you can see them on the Teletest site if the Teletest Doctor attaches them to your urine results.
  • If you test positive, you can get Doxycycline or whatever treatment is required from Teletest as well.
  • It appears to be run by a legit doctor (you can look up his ID #) out of London, ON.
  • Teletest has a whole shit load of menu options for tests for the paranoid or the hypochondriac
  • Test monthly, the $ and time cost is low.

Unless of course you & the SO has signed the Disclosure Authorization Consent Form that lets her legally see your information. Others can chime in if a Power of Care also applies but that's awfully specific circumstances.

Thanks for this info. Do I have to show my id for teletest? I am asking because I am thinking If I don’t use my real name then it will help keep things anonymous

You provide your OHIP # since 'cause that's how they test & him get paid for. Anytime you show your OHIP card for 'free' tests, they know everything about you. He's a real doctor, looked up his credentials & numbers so I don't think he cares all that much about you.

What if I said I can just pay?
