Fuck!

My computer just died on me. And of course, it's been a little too long since I did a backup of my stuff.

Fuck. Fuck. FUCK.

Buying a new computer was not in my budget.

Fuck!

Please, pray for me that I can get some computer geek to recuperate my life from my defunct computer.

If only I was a little more tech savy, I would offer to come over and perform some CPR on you CPU. But I sturdied business, not computer science.

F#@k f#@k f#@&k!!

Anyways, I hope you are able to solve your dilemma without too much expense or trouble.

Wow. Thanks to all the geeks ;) who sent PMs offering to help. I'm a little less grumpy and pissed from feeling the love.

I'm on a Mac. The thing worked seamlessly for the last 6 years, not a single problem ever, until a couple hours ago when it just shut down out of the blue and refuses to come out of its coma. I will bring it to the doctor tomorrow, and hopefully, they can do something with it.

If not, I'll just have to fork the $1200 to get a new one.

Gen, deep breath! If your computer "died" there is a very good chance it was some other piece of hardware other than the hard drive or some kind of operating system issue. In either case, you can always rip out the hard drive (the boxy thingy in side the computer that holds your information.) and connect it to another computer and copy it all good as new. might take a little bit of work adding your contacts and other such goodies to your new computer or new installation of leopard.

Think of good things about this. One it probably forces you to freshin up your system either data-wise or hardware-wise. even if it's not in the budget, it probably needs to be done. so now it will be :D Another good thing is, you got a nice firm reminder on the benefits of backing up! learning is always a good thing! A great thing about this situation is, now since this isn't in the budget, you have a wonderful excuse to squeeze in somemore fuckin', and the world always needs more fuckin! It makes people happy and sends out happy vibes to all!

See this is a great thing, if you look at the positive!

If my memory serves me right, the average lifespan for PC is around 6 years.

My Dell PC died after having it for 7 years and no my PC did not crash b/c my hard drive was full of free download hardcore porn flicks that I chose not to buy the DVDs

Maybe it's about time to get a new Macbook. You could accumulate airmiles points when you purchase the Macbook online at applestore.ca via airmilesshops.ca

I gotta say that sounds kinda hot! kinda like that free implants website, get guy gives a little donation for some boom boom and you get a free puter! though really don't waste your money on a flackin mac. go HP right now they have the best record on the lack of repairs needed over 3 years (get the graphic on the mac commerical thread)

Oooo Sounds like a plan.

And you use a Mac? And here I was going to say, I have my old gaming rig sitting around. Just needs a few updates, but used to work great.

But it does act as a good reminder to clean out my current tower as well.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Gen... :(

I guess you were unsuccessful in your bid to get a new one last spring...

6 years is a long time for a laptop isn`t it?
Ya - been lusting over a new laptop for a while. But I have other financial priorities, and until today, I couldn`t really justify spending that kind of money when I had another computer that worked perfectly well.

I guess this is giving me the excuse I needed. But still, I would have preferred to wait a little longer before having to buy a new one. That, and I`m already stressed out and overworked enough with the end of the term craziness without having to deal with a dead computer.

My frickin life is on this computer, I can`t function without it.

Well, I was thinking, "Imagine how bad it would be if you were making $15.00 an hour as opposed to $240.00" Then I thought, "naa, better not say it" The you came out and said how you were going to make the dough for the new computer.

So, look at the bright side, it will take you about a day's work to pay for a new compie verses a couple of weeks for most of the world.
