I like to make pickles and really freshly picked cucumbers make a big difference in the crunch.

Used to be that there were little old Italian grandpa and grandma gardens in Woodbridge where you could buy them fresh picked that morning. All gone now. And these so-called 'farmers markets' in the GTA are usually nothing more than people who get some wholesaler to back door them some veggies out of the Ontario Food Terminal.

Anyone know of an actual farm where I could grab some freshly picked? Willing to drive within 50 km of Toronto, even Niagara region. Or is it too late in the season for cucumbers already?

I'm making both brined and fermented. My half-sours are fantastic but only stay half sour for so long...

Last time I made pickles cukes came from a place on the se corner of Queen St and Hwy 50 on the extreme east of Brampton.
Roma tomatoes from there as well but both were pre pandemic.

I have also had sucess just driving up Hwy 27 and see what pops up.
Yes, I agree the roadside finds of retialing fresh in season seem fewer and further between than they used to be.

I think I mentioned this before, but not everyone reads every thread so

If you are going to buy cucumbers, by some lube so people think you are going to shove it in your ass than think you are some sort of weirdo vegan.

There is a small farmers market on Lakeshore Blvd just inside Mississauga at the Small Arms Inspection Building on Sundays. They have real farmers coming out. I have seen the small cucumbers there.

Also recommend the perogie seller, the egg seller, rest have decent produce.

I suspect one of the factors that is leading to the decine of the roadside selling is the overall decline of the number of folks who carry cash any more.

A quarter of a bushel for 10.99 also at nofrills but you probably need a bigger one for that.

Haven't been to the fishing lodge on the Saugeen River this decade.

For the freshest, tastiest produce, the Farmer's Market north of Port Elgin is your best choice.
