Fresh & Delicious Sushi?

Not that kind of sushi!

I am homesick and looking for some fresh and delicious sushi to make me feel better. Can anyone suggest a place? In North York or close to High Park/Lakeshore if possible.

North York, High Park, and Lakeshore are all pretty far apart...

If you're in town for a few days, Sushi Kaji is the top sushi restaurant in the city, near Lakeshore (a bit north, on Queensway) but they're closed on Monday and Tuesday http://www.sushikaji.com/top.html.

In Yorkville (Bloor/Bay), Sushi Inn is my favourite, not fancy but their stuff is very fresh as they do tremendous volume, the prices are great considering their location, and the neighborhood is fantastic for people watching/shopping http://www.sushiinn.net/

Stay away from the dozen Sushi restaurants on Bloor between Spadina and Bathurst, they're all "food court" sushi type places. There's a few similar type places on Bloor west of High Park, again nothing special. I'm not familiar with North York...hope this helps!

Can't tell you about Lakeshore or High Park, but here's a list for North York...I live in the area and is a sashimi lover

Hiro Sushi - 5213 Yonge (North York Centre)
Ichiban Fish House - 15 Spring Garden Avenue (near Yonge/Sheppard)
Sapporo Sushi - 5469 Yonge (near Yonge/Finch)

Those are 3 of the more reliable places...they are run by Korean/Japanese (I think more Korean)

Yorkville - Sushi Inn is ok but on the same street (Cumberland closer to Avenue Road) Shogun is better - slightly more expensive, and service is a little slower - but it's run by Japanese and the food is IMO better than Sushi Inn

Now if you have money to splurge...go for Hashimoto

If you are in markham area, pls try Inatei japanese restaurant on Leslie just north of hwy7 on east side. A little more expansive than other places but one of the best tasting Sushi sashimi place and their tempura is also the best i have ever tried. Their spider rolls and hamachi belly are my fav there.

Having tried all of the places listed above thus far, I would concur with most of the recommendations.
As most sushi people know, where there's high customer volume, there's fresh fish. (Please no sexual jokes)
Sushi Kaji is the best in TO, and priced accordingly. $80+
Hiro Sushi is an oldie but still good, prob $50+
Sushi Inn is always busy and deservedly so. Cheap and fresh.
I would agree with the LTG's Bloor west comment, except for New Generations and Sushi on Bloor. Those two places have good deals and pretty nice food, IMHO.
I would stay away from Queen & Spadina sushi places.
And by all means, stay away from the grocery store refrigerated sushi!
