Sideways is right. I have a friend who, although clean and sober now, was addicted to that crap for nearly five years. His mood would swing from jovial and fun one moment to becoming the meanest person you've ever seen in a matter of minutes -- when he was tweaking, saying "good morning" to him could be taken as a perceived slight and he'd freak out.
