I am considering purchasing one of these new free to air or fta receivers that I've been hearing about from some friends. It seems they are cardless and get free unrestricted dish tv just like I had back in the day. The site that I found that shows info on this is the following link:

http://www.eurofta.com/

Anyone else have experience with fta sat television? Please let me know and if possible which receiver brand I should buy?

Try Winamp Player

Winamp version. 5.12, has all kinds of internet and satellite radio and TV stations and all for free.
Hundreds of channels listed showing currently running movies.

Quality is pretty good as long as you have broadband.

There is even plenty of XXX satellite channels in the mix.
[Watching a hot blonde babe riding a guy right now on an adult amateur movie channel.]

Always liked Wimamp, it's worth giving a try.

thx Woodpecker, I installed winamp 5.3. Can you suggest some Internet TV channel?
Just scroll through the listings, there are plenty.
I don't really watch the TV channels, mainly have a radio station on while surfing.

Where do you look? I looked at http://wwitv.com/portal.htm and did not find much of interest.

This is for Winamp player version 5.12 which I'm using. Haven't updated to Ver 5.3 yet.
PS: I'm using the Classic Winamp Skin/Look but it looks like the modern skin is very similar in operation.

The radio/TV listings are built right in the Winamp player's Media Library.

Open up the Winamp player > right click on WINAMP center logo on the top.
This gives you a drop-down selection.
Checkmark the Media Library, which opens up a Media Library window.
From that scroll down to Online Media and select SHOUTCAST Radio or TV.
Once you pick your radio or TV option a list of stations will be retrieved.
Pick anyone of them stations and it will load in a few seconds.

Listening to Smoothjazz.com now, playing Jim Brickman....;)

Liata seems to have the best advertised prices, although the Matheson gang will match price if they are in a good mood....

http://www.liata.com/scrMain2.asp?product_types_id=56

Liata sells out fast on weekends. You may have to go early in the week after they refresh stock.

Viewsat has better support, but I think the Coolsat is a better built box

There's a new place on Matheson called "Incredible Electronics", just behind Active Components. They are a big Ariza dealer, Ariza700 was going for $90.

They also had Coolsat5000 (OEM) and Viewsat2000 Extreme (clone) going for $100 ea., EXP PVR 80GB fta for $244. All prices cdn.

These are for brand new units and they had full skid loads in the back so these prices aren't just one offs

... My CS 4000 clone was killed so I replaced it with a real 6000....
Some interesting stuff I was told, but don't know if it's 100% true:

1. The Coolsat 4000 is actually a clone of an older FTA
2. Ariza and Pansat are made on the same production line, just different labels

Just to clarify at Incredible: the Coolsat 5000 for $100 is original.

The VS2000 for $100 is a clone. There's some website that has pictures of originals and clones. This clone is so close that packaging and the everything on the outside of the clone is 100% identical to a real VS2000. The only way to tell is that the remote control is different.

Stay far away from the clones. Their garbage. Not worth the trouble.

I started with a Coolsat 4000 pro, but when all fta went down in the summer
and Viewsat was the first with new software, I couldnt wait for the Norwest group so I bought a Viewsat extreme, and I have to say I love it. It seems Viewsat has the best support so far as being the quickest to have new software up and running.

Be aware of the clones though. How to spot a Viewsat clone? The main power switch on the back of a Viewsat clone is mounted horizontally
and on the real one it is mounted straight up and down.

Also on the remote, the Viewsat clone has a round power button, as with the
real one the button is rectangular.
Here is the link on how to spot a viewsat clone: h**p://www.dssevolution.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70350
You might have to sign in to view it.

I purchased mine at Worldwide Satellites
Niccon Electronics
7650 Kimbel St. Unit 13
Mississauga
(647)-722-0827
I think their running for about $175 now.

You can find some great free support at: dssevolution.com

Have fun with it.

I used a digiwave receiver for 2 years, it was great untill the last shut down,
therefore I purchased a Coolsat 6000, which have one of the best software and support.Since the Sat.comapny changing their code almost everyday now, this machine will change their code to match.
Important for receiver is the support from the manufacturer, otherwise you find more down time than watching TV.
I purchased mine in the East Beaver Creek area, if you want the contact,pm me.

Someone has informed me that the Coolsat 5000 that Incredible is selling is also a clone.

The only way to tell is that the LEDs in the remote of the clone do not light up when pressed. The LEDs do light up on a real Coolsat 5000 remote.

BTW, both of these clones that Incredible is selling (Coolsat 5000 and Viewsat 2000 Ex) will work with the latest OEM BIN files (Norwest 1.35 and Viewsat 10072006), so for $100, they still are OK
