It was 19 years ago today (November 24, 1991) that we lost one of the greatest singers and performers of all time.....the incomparable Freddie Mercury.

I have seen a lot of great rock performers in my day...none can come close to Freddie. RIP.

The greatest voice in Rock and Roll.

It's tragic that Freddie is no longer with us.

Watch how he gets the crowd going here:

Somehow I can't picture any of today's current line-up of faceless Pop Tarts being able to do that.

Amen to that.
I would say maybe, current-day, Bono comes close.
True, but I would not classify U2 as being in the "Pop Tart" genre.

I was thinking more like:

Justin Timberlake, Brittany, Lady Gaga, Beonce, Christina, Kanye West, most of the Rappers - all the bullshit marketing machine generated meaningless fluff music that is out there today.

For the most part (there's a few saving Graces) - Rock is Dead.

Along with Morrison, Jagger, Bowie (as a band member with Tin Machine) Bono has rightfully earned his place amongst the elite upper echelon of front men who are not only musically relevant but also socially, culturally and even politically.

This very selective and elite list is not complete without the inclusion of the Great Freddie Mercury who continues to influence musicians and music to this day.

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away
From us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever....?

There's no chance for us
Its all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?

Who dares to love forever?
When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today

Who waits forever anyway?

Long Live Freddie Mercury! Never to be forgotten!!

Didn't they say something similar back in the 50's. It lived a long life and should be around for a while longer.

RIP, Freddie!!

Somewhere, in a far better place than this, you're still writing and singing the best songs and giving leathermen the best blow jobs! Memories remain!

*Sigh*, you're right. I like fluff/dance music too, but old school seems to have been forgotten.

Robert Plant spoke of FM at a benefit concert and how great his voice was.

I'm not that big of a Bono fan, but yeah he's great too. Paul Rodgers is great too.

Hope you are right Oracle.
In the meantime I've switched back to Jazz and Latin Jazz. At least they have real talented musicians there.....

Talented musicians to whom some of them are junkies and into binge drinking, say Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Stan Getz.

Sounds like they had something in common to your favorite bashing target, Rush Limbaugh when it comes to substance abuse.

I don't like his music Kirk, but Justin Timberlake is a genuinely talented artist. The rest of them I agree with you.

Careful there little one.
Feeling depressed when your favorite Jazz Musicians engaged in this kind of vice you abhor?

Interesting to notice that these are the open secrets, documented for decades and yet you push yourself too hard to pretend they are rumors or heresy.

You Peckr Envy is showing again....LMAO!
No Peckr Envy since I don't like birds.

Plus Birds could carry flu and spread contagion.

OTOH, everybody here could tell your anger to recent success in the emerging world, while having envy to the fellow Americans, Democrats and Republicans who are getting ahead financially.

Amuse us hinny and tell us your fav music?

Please do not confuse the music industry with art. The "suits" are their to make profit, which happens by selling to the lowest common denominator. Queen became great despite being in the music business.

As for "rock is dead", just about every generation says the same thing. Your musical tastes tend to become "locked in" during your teen years and early 20's. There was a lot of fluff and bubble gum rock in the 60's and 70's that was "just crap" compared to Yes or Hendrix or Queen or ...

Even Queen put out a lot of crap, I gave up on them when "The Game" came out in 1980. I love all their previous albums which proudly had no synthesizers and this was the first one to include them and sold very well.

Freddie always had great vocals though, a true artist.
