It took them 40 years to plan this?
Steelers are not known for retiring Jerseys..I think there's only 3-4 total...so it's the timing
Franco scored the Steelers 1st Playoff TD...50 yr. Anniversary of the Immaculate Reception...

Steelers had a jersey retirement ceremony planned for this weekends game.
Will be a somber event for sure.
Well, it's a shame he won't be at the event but at least he knew that he was going to be honoured with it.

What a shame on the timing of this. RIP Franco that was truly one of the most amazing plays in sports history.

It appears his death was sudden. Stroke, heart attack? R.I.P.

P.S. Unlike Salming, I think the Steelers had no idea his death would be so sudden. If they did, I'm sure they would have held the ceremony earlier.

What made Franco Harris great?

Eddie Shack had a nose for value, Franco Harris had a nose for the end zone. That was the crux of his career. The Immaculate Reception would not be remembered today if Franco didn't run it for touchdown. On first and goal with Franco didn't require extra downs. Franco was part Italian, his mother Gina Paretti Harris was a war bride.

If you look in career touchdowns by a running back, all the others above him had longer careers.

I don't know about "amazing" but it's definitely one of the most iconic.

For example, I think David Tyree's catch was more amazing.

great player, but the ball bounced off the Steelers player so should not have counted according to the rules of the day ( and Brady fumbled too in the tuck game). yes, I am a Raiders fan.
I thought it went off the Raiders defender's shoulder. I forget his name, but he was a dirty player.

edit: I remember now. Jack Tatum. (Didn't he also end Darryl Stingley's career?)

Sorry to burst your Raiders got rob bubble..but watch the film...
The ball was already had gone past Fuqua..it hit Tatum in the chest and then to Harris...plus Fuqua was already going down even if Fuqua did touch it first ., it doesn't matter cus a defensive player touched it last before Harris caught it.

And yes I'm a Steelers Fan
