The mutual love between the United States and France has "deteriorated" since the two countries had disagree with each other's position on the war in Iraq.

Do you think France will take back the Statue of Liberty??? LOL
I've heard that exports to the US are down 40%, now I think that is funny.

Only if we can give France back to Germany, twice.

When did the US Save France?

Unless you've been reading revisionist history worthy of Stalin, France was liberated by a number of countries, including their own resistance.

Oh, I forgot, you've been watching Band of Brothers for your history. No wonder you have such a myopic view.

It's funny though, I never hear those other countries claiming it was just them or that they need to be thanked endlessly.

And the US is of little interest to the French, in fact EuroDisney has never done very well. The French are a very strong independant nation, they are entitled to live their lives how they want. I wish Canada wasn't under such a strangle hold by its neighbours to the south.

You didn't read the entire thread if you think my WWII knowledge comes from the Band of Brothers DVDs (which are excellent). May I suggest the six series of books by Mr. Churchill for you evening reading. The US had more troops in France than all other countries combined. The invasion could not have taken place without the US, period.

Who wants to be endlessly thanked? I think we'd settle for not being stabbed in the back.

Hell

The Russian winter did more to liberate France that the UK and Canada combined.

Liminal,

Yes many countries helped to liberate France, only after the United States got involved. Those books that OTB is talking about are a wonder to read. Thanks to him, I went out and purchased the entire set. Should take me about 2 weeks solid to read through them.
are amazing! It's great to read history from another countries perspective. Where are you in the "story"?

You've got in reverse Sheik

The United States only entered after other countries, including our's in case you've forgotten, had been involved and fighting for years. That is the hard, cold reality.

But I'm grateful that you pointed out to OTB that France's liberation was the work of millions from many countries who have the dignity not continually demand thanks.

What OTB entertains us with is Hollywood History. Maybe you should read some other books as well, like your own country's history.

Sheik, be careful with your own credibility

You're taking education lessons from someone who's educational choices have led him to these positions?

" Hell

That's an easy remark to defend. How many German divisions were occupied with the Russian winter? And the UK and Canadians?

OTB

P.S. Goober, do I get another spanking for this?

I'll make it even easier to answer!

You're right, it is an easy answer. I'll leave it to you to break the suspense and tell us.

But, I'll give you a hint: It's exactly the same number that was facing the US because it was the Canada, UK, and the United States that were there along with contingents from other countries and the French Underground.

No, that's not what you said

I'm wide awake but you must be having a bad dream if you think you are saying the same thing.

You said then:

"Yes many countries helped to liberate France, only after the United States got involved."

Now you say:

"I said it wasnt until the United States got involved before things started turning around"

Two different points.

While I disagree with both, my response was to your first statement and I stand behind it.

The United States entered after many other countries and millions of men and women were involved in fighting the Germans. It was only after this that the US decided to carry part of the load, despite benefiting from the sacrifices made by others for so long.
