I liked "House of Flying Daggers" soon to be released in theatres this December by Sony Classics. It was part of the film fest. Similar to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon/Hero. The special effects were pretty good but the scenery of the shooting locations was just amazing. It's mostly a love story but with some action thrown into the mix. You can probably find it at the asian video stores already.

"Blind Swordsmen!!"
Haven't seen it but I heard good things!!

A movie called "Dirty Pretty Things" is supposed to be really good. Caught some of it on TMN and it looked pretty interesting. Has the girl from Amelie in it!

No, it was Dierdre. Wait, was it a fake?

Come to think of it, I *did* see the CN Tower in the background, and one of the stars looked remarkably like Mom...

FARK!

It certainly made me want to go searching for willing Turkish ladies! She was pretty cute.

I recently saw Raise the Red Lantern on DVD and highly recommend it.

Other foreign favorites of mine which aren't so recent:

Vivre Sa Vie
Mama Roma
Love and Anarchy

as well as anything by Ingmar Bergman.

If you're a fan of beautiful French actresses, I recommend "8 Women". Cougars like Catherine Deneuve and Fanny Ardant, as well as younger gorgeous ladies like Emmanuelle Béart and Virginie Ledoyen. It's a murder mystery, screwball comedy and sort of a musical too, where each of the characters burst into song at some point in the film. The colour is as lavish as the old Technicolour films and each lady is colour-coded in her costume design, giving a visual impression of an all-female version of the boardgame, "Clue".

Yeah, City of God!!!!

I heard a lot of hype on it and I wasn't expecting much from this movie. Though when I saw City of God I was really surprised on how good it was!!

"Mostly Martha" is an excellent film from Germany. One of the best ever, IMO.

If you like offbeat films, try "Songs from ther Second Floor", from Sweden.
