I guess Doug was being sensitive when TVO reported of his backroom deals during his drug trafficking days.

I don't think Ford would shut down TVO, even though he may want to. The costs would be prohibitive, not to mention the costs to revive it once he is no longer premier. It is funded by the government of Ontario, but it's not like turning off a light bulb. Hundreds, if not thousands of contracts would have to be settled.

How would PP shut down CBS? It's a huge US public company (owned by Paramount Global, formerly Viacom) just like ABC (and ESPN, owned by Disney) and NBC (which is owned by Comcast). All 3 are listed on the New York stock exchange.

It would probably be even more expensive to shut down the CBC.

Unlikely, but if anything, it could be privatized like Petro Canada and Air Canada were.
IMHO, generally the government should not be in the business of providing services that the private sector will provide. The cost structures in govt companies do not align with those of publicly traded companies because the overall organizational objectives are different.

I think the CBC plays an important role in keeping the country informed and united. They actually create shows. CTV and Global create very little because they prefer to import American stuff.

SCBC is 1 of our most important military Assets. USA Realizes Importance of media that's why these funded for billions of dollars via operation mocking others.

When Canada starts producing top gun type movies On the government like America did, Then we can consider Removing the CBC which is so far from massively underfunded. Canada's soft power is the only power it has.

I was just watching documentary About how Bismarck What's so successfully military. His secret weapon
.. German waitresses with big tits.. Which became the backbone of his spynetwork....

I agree with this. It is funded by our tax $$ though. Have NO appetite to debate on whether this is a good thing or not. But I'm reasonably sure that the CBC would look a lot different as a non-govt entity. Not necessarily better or worse, just a lot different.
