The astronaut is near the far end just before the outstretched solar panels in a diagonal position working on the station.

About the road with the sky above - is that CGI or a real image of the night sky with what looks like nebulous (purplish) clouds? Amazing.

" Explanation: In search of planets and the summer Milky Way, astronomer Tunç Tezel took an evening road trip. Last Saturday, after driving the winding road up Uludag, a mountain near Bursa, Turkey, he was rewarded by this beautiful skyview to the south. Near the center, bright planet Jupiter outshines the city lights below and the stars of the constellation Sagittarius. Above the mountain peaks, an arcing cloud bank seems to lead to the Milky Way's own cloudy apparition plunging into the distant horizon. In Turkish, Uludag means Great Mountain. Uludag was known in ancient times as the Mysian Olympus."

In 1927, eruptions caused smaller Anak Krakatau to rise from the sea, and the emerging volcanic island continues to grow at an average rate of 2 cm per day. The latest eruption of Anak Krakatau started in 2008 April and continues today. In this picture, Anak Krakatau is seen erupting from Rakata, the main island of the Krakatoai group. High above, stars including the Big Dipper are clearly apparent."

I remember seeing a dramatization of the original eruption in the 1800s on the History Channel or The Discovery Channel.

It was probably the biggest explosion on earth (short of the asteroid that crashed during the Jurassic period I guess).

Neat, I didn't see the title on Yoga Face's post. I was pretty sure it was the East Indies but other than that. . . .

Volcanoes also spew out water molecules so without them life would not have evolved
