The corn is great this year. :) I usually just eat it with butter and salt but I also love the Mexican way. Some people think it's weird but I think it's delicious - Mayonnaise, Parmesan, and a little chili powder. In Mexico, they use Cotija cheese. There are different toppings you can use.

Another great topping is lime butter. Fantastic with corn.
With this year's corn crop, why not just grill the ears and consume by itself? Especially if you can source corn that has been picked the same day.
If not fresh, I personally enjoy freshly grilled corn kernels mixed with crumbled goat feta, pickled hot peppers and cilantro.

Another crop that’s looking really good this year are peaches. The sunny weather has been great as long as the farm could irrigate the crop every now and then. Peaches love hot dry weather. I grow apples at my cottage and they’re all stunted so far because of the lack of rain (I don’t irrigate my orchard).

Definitely a great year for peaches!

Speaking of peaches.... Peaches and blueberries are in season and cheap right now. I'm thinking of making a peach blueberry pie on Sunday. I cheat though and buy the ready made pie crust.

Vegans - skip this post...

The other thread about "backyard" butchering of a cow (which wasn't actually in a backyard) made me think of how butchering is an under-appreciated skill/art amongst the general public. Also, many don't know where their favourite cuts of beef may come from. This is a great video showing pretty much every cut you can get from a quartered cow. (It doesn't cover head, organs or tail)

Great videos essguy, us carnivores should realize an animal has to give up its life for our diet.

The ultimate Surf & Turf. I had this at Yang's after I paid off my mortgage.

I use canola oil for frying. Sesame oil is good for stir-frys.
Canola oil is good for frying because it has a neutral flavor and does not give any additional flavors to the food. Sesame best used as a condiment, it adds a unique flavor to dishes. It is best to add a few drops of sesame oil just as you finish cooking the dish.

Try making simple ramen noodle ( not the ones you buy for 4/$1 at the supermarket )
Try the good ones from Chinatown. Use ramen broth ( available at Loblaws ) and add a few drops of sesame oil and soya sauce. You will never eat ramen the old way after you try this.

Eddie Huang gets redemption from being atop of the Wall of Shame. He talks about his relationship with Anthony Bourdain and endorses our food scene. The momos at Logas must have really impressed him.

When I was last in Scotland ( 1999 ) one of the favorite snacks at the chip shops was a half a frozen pizza folded and dipped in fish batter and fried. If you like they will throw a Mars Bar in the batter and fry it up for you as well. ( the same batter they used for the frozen pizza and fish - fried in the same chip oil. )

Capezze di Venere (Nipples of Venus) are becoming very popular. This is the Chocolat version not the Amadeus which follows the traditional Venetian recipe.

The original recipe has no chocolate. They are made with brandied sugar and chestnut marzipan.

Salieri is right, capezzioli is nipples, capezze is breasts.
