What does Following a person do?

As near as I can tell, it just creates a list to limits the people who so your profile under the Privacy menu. Do you get notifications if a person you're following creates a new post?
How do I see who is following me? There doesn't appear to be an option under Preferences.

I can't follow you since you have limits on who can see your profile.

If you hover over my username on the left, you can follow me still. Like this. You don't have to go to my profile.

I don't see any special notification about your post to me though. I'm uncertain about the utility of 'following'. I see I can Unfollow you but you're right, no way to boot anyone.

I saw the dialogue between you and Kautilya. It's more complicated than I initially thought. I thought it might be simple like Flickr where I see a list of people I am following and a list of people following me.

Yes, I think the purpose is just a 'friends' list. Shrug.

When I first joined I got DM's from some...unique individuals. Wasn't for me. In the settings instead of not receiving DM's from anyone, you can set it to those you follow. This is another benefit of the following feature. Hope this helps.

Under your news feed you see all the posts of the people you are following. Which is why stalkers can easily follow someone and harass someone. I have a few followers who follow me to simply post to harass me.

Ahhhhhhh.....there is the function I expected. That is, filter out posts and see only those who you follow. Thanks! Good luck with the 'fan' club.
