my mom took the shot 2 years ago and was sick as hell for about 6 weeks after. since then none of my family has gotten it.

Referncing American sites doesn't help. The US medical establishment is on a CYA approach, so their recommendations have more to do with avoiding lawsuits than practicing good medicine.

IMHO, I have had the flu shot for several years and found it helps...
