Flash Drives...

More geeky hardware questions!

I'm planning on picking up a Flash Drive while I'm in the US this weekend, and wondering if anyone has some avoid/recommend tips they'd like to pass on.

I'm looking at the Lexar 1 G jump drive -

I'm concerned about stability of my data, transfer speed and ruggedness of the device itself.

Any specs in particular I should look for when picking one up?

I'm also intrigued by the fingerprint technology Jump Guard - looks like it might be the way to go if you're concerned about keeping your info private when it comes to web surfing...

Thanks,

I have found the jump drives to be very rugged - I have had several different Lexar models and they have never let me down.

no drivers needed, has password protection, and a tiny green light that lights up when data is being accessed from it. The cap is tight so does not pop off easily, and it also includes a short USB extension cable for 'hard to reach' USB ports.

Keep in mind when buying a flash drive, make sure the keyring is on the drive, not on the cap

Had problem with SanDisk 256mb as well. Lost the data. Did not recognize the drive and asked it to be formatted.

i have the Lexar 1 Gig and my Ipod in which i can boot from and carry info also. You can set your Ipod to be a drive too.

Oh, geez. Thanks for pointing this out to me, you guys! I'm such an idiot. Of course, I can just use my iPod for this, can't I? I mean, I already have the 1 G iPod, so why not?

Fark.

But, since I've now admitted my dimness, I should also mention that Best Buy Canada apparently has the 1 G Lexar for less than the 512.... but they're currently out of stock. They expect them back in by mid month.
