iPhone 6 and 6 Plus can bend in pockets, users complain

Despite insurance company finding new iPhones are most durable yet, users discover that pockets can warp them - and hands too if you try hard enough.

Apple’s new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are bending while being carried in user pockets.

The bigger screens but thinner bodies of Apple’s new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models have come at the cost of rigidity, according to owners who say they bent while being carried in trouser pockets.

A number of users across various forums, sites and Twitter have reported – and pictured – that their phones have become warped after they sat or bent down with them in front and rear trouser pockets.

The reports come just after an insurance company claimed that the new iPhones are the most robust ever – though its tests didn’t include bending.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus chassis is milled from a solid piece of aluminium alloy whose composition is secret. The weak area of the phone appears to be around the volume buttons, where the frame is at its thinnest and creates a fulcrum point around which the phone bends. Surprisingly, the screen does not break when the phone bends – though it does if the phone is then bent back to a flat profile.

Apple is not the first to have the problem of a large-screened metal-framed smartphone bending under use. Sony’s Xperia Z1, which had a 5in screen and a metal frame, saw users complaining that they bent in pockets, while Samsung Galaxy S4 users had similar complaints, as did BlackBerry Q10 users.

The exact number of iPhone 6 users affected is unknown. The Guardian found dozens of people on Twitter whose iPhone 6 or 6 Plus had bent – though there are also hundreds more echoing news reports and the pictures put up by those who have been affected.

iPhone 6 users concerned about their devices bending are being told to upgrade their phones to the stronger iPhone 6s which should be released in the next month. The "s" stands "stronger".

It's reported Apple fanboys have already started lining up for the new 6s. :D

This whole bend thing is idiotic.
Nothing is indestructible and if you apply enough force in a manner it's not suppose to experience, then you get a bend phone.

It's made of aluminum. Other phones are made of plastic or glass.
So would you prefer your phone to bend a bit or snap right in half?

BTW, a Samsung Galaxy S4 bends just as well.

Or the idiots could not sit on their phones.......

Seriously WTF!
You're missing the point, if was as simple as sitting down with the phone in your back pocket the iPhone 4 and 5 would have had the same problem. The 6 is lighter, thinner and as a result not as strong. They appear to be bending at the same (weak) point where the volume buttons are located. Besides, they're also bending when kept in front pockets.

Ever hear of this problem with the iPhone 4 or 5? Face it, it's a design flaw.

Apparenty there is now an issue with the blutooth as well. I saw a blurb about not being able to connect with cars......

Great! Lots of cash for our new laws on phone usage and driving!

Well it either one of two things can be drawn from this

1) Apple put out a shitty product that can't be flexible like the company itself - expandable memory, replaceable battery ....but I think that's more of Apple wanting to make more money -pay more if you want more memory, battery replacement, come in and we'll charge you for it.

2) a lot of the people who buy apple products are inherently stupid, apple saw that from the beginning and this is how they made their billions.
Now you ask why I say they're stupid? Because what IDIOT puts their phone in their back pocket and expects it to contort in some fashion?????????????????
Maybe these people should stick to cheaper toys like Fisher Price, from childhood experience, those toys can take a beating.

It' will be interesting to see if we start to hear/see first hand accounts of #BendGate. I do know lots of people with an iPhone 4 & 5 who have cracked screens.

Actually its pretty shitty product testing before going mass production.

My ASUS tablet had shitty GPS reception because of the antenna location in the metal case. They sent out free attachments which work great but still - how can you put a product in production with out testing the GPS receiver ?

The thinness contest between all smartphones is lame to me once it gets 1/4" or under. Every smartphone I've had gets a screen guard and case anyways which it why thickness and material is a moot issue for me.

I wonder if the secrecy behind the product has limited beta testing so much that many customer behavior quirks are missed. (Maybe tightened after some engineers left one in a bar a few years back)

Easy click magnets for trolls....

Apple has had 9 reports of bent phones, sold 10,000,000 - had 9 idiots bend them......
I should get into the anti-Apple blogging business too. Find some clickbait, blog about it and get b4u, Gameboy, IM, Tesla and the other dummies to do my SEO and promotion for free.

Easy money.

You do you do realize that there been a total of NINE reported cases of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6plus bending.

Now there was what 10 million or so units sold NINE seems like a very low number.

Not to mention this...

But you have to remember, these neckbeards have an irrational hardon for Apple. Anything they can spin negatively they will. No matter how minor or untrue.
