April 16 2014. The ship MV Sewol is carrying schoolchildren on a trip in Korea. The ship begins to sink. Despite this, the captain orders everyone to stay where they are. While this is happening, the captain and the crew are abandoning the ship. The children are left to fend for themselves, with no adults to help them.

The captain never changes his orders, and allows the children to drown to death. Meanwhile, he is the first to be saved by rescuers. Other crew members were drinking beer while the children were dying.

The captain and crew are found guilty of negligence and murder, and sentenced to prison, with the captain getting 36 years.

The video is extremely disturbing, as we know these are the last moments of their lives, but they do not. They are nervous, but joking in the beginning.

Watch at your own discretion, although it does not show the children dying, or the water coming in.

I'm going to pass on watching, but I will say that Captain should have been hung. I'm no fan of capital punishment, but this is such an egregious case of wilful negligence, that would happily make an exception.

The captain knew if he allowed everyone on deck to get out he would be the last to leave and would probably die. He sacrificed the children to save his own life.

Agreed.

The captain pretended to be a passenger when rescuers came so that he would be rescued.

Despite the cowardice of the captain, there was a hero. A cafeteria worker scrambled to get as many children into lifeboats. She refused to go in one herself, telling them that she needed to get more. She was later found dead.

Death by drowning would be more appropriate.
