Are there programs out there that will recognize a video file and then allow you to split it into pieces?

I know there are video converters but I'm more interested in creating a clone of the original but split into pieces (rather than split into lesser quality segments). I don't want to have to manually figure out the details of the video file and program them into the program but would rather just have it recognize the video file automatically and split it.

Is there a program that does this?

There are applications out there that just split files. I've used one in the past for the purpose of emailing in chunks because of space limitations. I think it was called HJ Split.
Now if you still want them to play, I can't say. There are some formats, I forget which, that will play in segments. But most will require headers and such from the beginning of the file.
If you wish to play the files still you may need a video editing software, which is something I don't know anything about.

Kazam Screencaster

Kazam is amazing and will do all that very easily and more.

I use Kazam for this purpose all the time with Linux.
Just play any video file you have and Kazam will easily edit out and save any portion of it you desire, duplicating the original audio and video of your source file.....
