I had hoped Sanders would be able to get there to start a change in thinking. But the powerful are going to fight this to the end.

It's them that engages in the systemic violence that started this. And in the economic looting that is fueling it.

They just don't like that it isn't being done purely in boardrooms.
What an interesting mix between alt-right libertarian, anarchist, and academic justifying violent revolution. Throw a couple conspiracy theories into the mix.

I recall something about the Russian revolution, moderate revolutionaries overthrown by violent extremists.
French Revolution, China Revolution, Iranian Revolution, etc. The only successful revolution, wait for it, the American Revolution. What China is to-day could have been accomplished through evolution without all the deaths.

Trudeau was ambushed by a reporter who asked what he thought about Trump calling out the military. (Trudeau the Elder called out the military when he imposed the War Measures Act.)

The French Revolution wasn't successful?

The French Revolution is beyond the scope of this thread suffice to say for now: The Reign of Terror, Napoleon and 20 years of war, etc.I would be happy to discuss the subject with you or anyone else in a separate thread.

I was watching CNN and some folks were saying that peaceful protest isn't working. Is anyone saying that blacks are not much better off now than they were in the 1960's? What is the alternative to peaceful protest? Armed insurrection?

The French Revolution was in the end known for its violent excesses and it's extraordinary zeal for idealistic (and psycho I might add) purity. Napoleon a military man established order and eventually himself as Emperor. He was deposed after reckless expansionary ambitions. The French monarchy was re-established.

Oh as far as executing the King and Queen and some nobility, it was a rousing success.

What a way to go though. Feed people for free and they end up killing you by wildly firing into a crowd. They literally bit the hand that fed them.

RIP dude. Snuffed out int he same city as Breonna Taylor who got gunned down while in her own bed because they had the wrong house.

Damn
Let's not jump on this story just yet. The Louisville police claim to have released security videos showing McAtee firing at police.

Videos are known but the story isn't done yet. They won't answer whether a gun was involved or not. They are on a let's wait and see. Either you have the gun or not.

That Breonna Taylor mess is still lingering so who knows what they're doing.

They did try to peacefully kneel at a football game. What happened again?

Oh ya. They were told they are UnAmerican.

They are now fully exercising their constitutional rights to free speech and assembly.

You just don't like the topic.
Yeah sure. MLK protested peacefully and had a huge impact, is still talked about and respected by all races. He didn't loot and steal and cause riots.
All these protests are not going to change the few that are racist. The people who are actually racist won't have their minds changed by riots and looters, it will probably make them even more racist.
Now in terms of what happened to George Floyd, everyone on all sides of the political spectrum agree the officers involved should be arrested and charged. There is literally no one who disagrees on this.
Virtue signalling on instagram with black squares and looting isn't going to change anything.

Oh, the amazing opportunities that exist for black children from their grammar school days throughout their careers. It's astounding how much of American life is dedicated to how do we create opportunities for African-Americans. Are there African-American we can admit and provide scholarships? How do we hire African-Americans? How do we promote African-Americans? How do we buy more from African-Americans?

I don't think Canadians understand how solely focusing on economic outcomes gives you a shallow perspective on the issue of race in America.

Sure and taking out the King wasn't such a bad goal, but in the end revolutions tend to eat their own. The American Revolution wasn't much of a revolution as far as revolutions go. It did throw-off the British monarchy, but it was more of a popular separatist movement clearly demarcated by geography.

As if the GOP aren't a complex coalition. Enacting corporate interests and polices that favour the rich while pandering to the working poor is a pretty complex mix too.
Ding-ding-ding! If the Dems focused on class, we would have more clean and healthy political dialogue. I have no idea how Trump moved enough working class into his column.

For some reason, the Democratic party has been taken over by elements of the radical left with a desire to build the party around identity politics. It greatly confuses the politics in our country. Since I don't support many of the Dems ideals, I guess I am a racist. Oh well.

Since Butler1000 is here, I will say Bernie was always a class warfare guy until he realized the party had become focused on identity politics.
