Sure some consider him an asshole and he does have a temper. What he did on the set of Gladiator is the deed of a real man. He took the emotionally troubled Joaquin Phoenix (the death of brother River hit him hard) under his wing, becoming his pseudo brother. Had he been a selfish prick there is no chance in hell that Joaquin makes it to win an Oscar for Joker.

Robin Williams talent wise. He was a special gift that could do it all. Unmatched warmth imo.

If I have to pick just one, Daniel Day-Lewis.
While he hasn't acted in relatively much over his career, what he has acted in is nothing short of brilliant. My Left Foot first drew my attention to him and to this day I think was the pinnacle of his acting endeavors. Pretty much everything he's acted in has been in a leading role with a powerful character. Definitely a case of quality over quantity.

My favorite actor is probably Gene Hackman. Hon mention to Tom Cruise, pre Scientology days.

Looks like K Douglas and I have something in common. Hackman was alway my favourite. My two favourite performances by him are Bite the Bullet (his “the things we do for love” speech is the epitome of great acting) and French Connection 2, where Popeye Doyle goes to Marseille to nab Charnier. His kicking heroin cold turkey scenes are fantastic.

The more I thought on it. Hackman delivered one amazing performance after another.

Humphrey Bogart fascinates me in most of his films as well. These days I can say the same thing about Tom Hardy.

Dang! Did you have to say no lists?

Thought of top 5, but of that close fight have to go with Robert De Niro, for his early and mid-career work.

Robert Di Nero, I know Trump supporters hate him. Taxi Driver and Casino.
Count me in. As much as I love Clint, De Niro has made some of the most iconic movies of our times doing some extremely difficult and intense roles. And then he does a movie like King of Comedy.

Bogie...aka Humphrey Bogart. He's just awesome in whatever he does.
Fave Aussie actor is Jack Thompson. The Club, Breaker Morant, etc., just great.

King of Comedy was brilliant...and Jerry Lewis’ performance in that film is under-rated imo.

Overall, though, DeNiro has been in several great films from The GodFather to Taxi Driver to Goodfellas...etc. He is the best American actor of his generation.

I dunno how to compare De Niro to actors like Bogart or Fred Astaire...I dunno.

The only actor who would rival De Niro would, in my opinion, be Charlie Chaplin. But at some point I don’t know how far anyone can go with those comparisons. They are different men of different eras.
