Favorite peripheral Simpsons character

While I think it is clear the Simpsons, now in its 17th season, is on a downward spiral, it remains one of the funniest shows in TV history. Early in its run, it exhibited not only a wide cast of characters, but also a willingness to devote scenes and entire episodes to this pantheon of back ups. As was stated on one commentary, it would be like if the Flintstones dedicated whole episodes to Joe Rockhead.
