But i drink it out of a beer mug.

...well in that case...it must add two inches to your penis....

i know when i drink 'shirley temples' from a beer mug...i can feel the chest hairs growing....and it prevents me from dancing and prancing all over the ballroom....

Here
Truth be told, I was born in Chile.

There are many good to great Chilean wines around this price point... or a buck or two more.

I can recommend Cusino Macul "Reserva" Cabs or Santa Alicia Chardonnays.

If you want a fruiter taste (just for you, Troops) try the Miguel Torres Gewurtztraminer or a Santa Carolina "Reserva" Merlot.

Try the Vintages room for special issues, often in that range. Stick to wines from the Maipo and Casablanca valleys for best value.

Dollar for dollar, the Chileans are much better value than all French, most Italians, many Aussies and South Africans... and I seldom drink any Californian reds except the great ones -- but there are some great Chardonnays in the $15-20 range.

Want a real treat for champagne style? Try the Spanish "Segura Viudas" -- the best $13 of its kind!

Two nice reds, right around twelve bucks

Santa Rita Reserva
Collavini Merlot

It's tougher to find a good white for that price, but there's a Calvet Reserve white bordeaux that's not bad.

Ask most of the wine specialists in the larger LCBO stores, the Ironstone 2000 Cab is the best buy in the store right now. I typical California wine, good body, not overly bold but absent of the strong tanens found in S.A. wine. Bought 2 cases of it already. Buy it quick before its gone. The 1999 sold out in about 4 weeks.

Taste and value are subjective!

Not to put a dent into wine snobbery, in fact snobbery is an end in itself, but there is no objective measure of a wine's taste or in fact even it's value, other than of course the universal value applied by supply and demand.

If you think that I am full of shit follow up on 'La Dégustation. Etude des représentations des objets chimiques dans le champ de la conscience' http://www.academie-amorim.com/us/laureat_2001/brochet.pdf wherein Frédéric Brochet pissed in the French bottle of pretentiousness so to speak.

The short and sweet is that it only matters if it tastes good to you. A US $7 bottle of California Pinot Noir may infact be better than a US $70 bottle of Bourgogne.

Cheers

White wine...

I would recommend Fortant Sauvignon Blanc from France. It costs less than $10 a bottle. --- Kev

Sorry late to the party, but the best deal IMHO, is an Australian Shiraz called Kangaroo Springs for $9.95.

Not available at all LCBO's but check the larger ones like Manulife or the Lakeshore.

Have to say I am partial to German Wines, 1 or 2's. Black Tower is a nice one. But like to support the Ontario wines. Harrow Estates have some nice wines.

The Merlot by Two Oceans, Aussie Reds as noted above, and The Chile Reds are both affordable and tasty.

well...

How about a nice old bottle of Colt 45?

Nothing tastes better than a good ol' malt beverage!

*not to mention, it impresses the ladies...word of advice, offer it to them AFTER you take her to watch the Monster Truck rally...
