Correction! Our NDP mayor, Chairman Mao David Miller, made this decision, aided and abetted by his 3 stooges on the Board.
They gave no reason for their decision because they have none, other than personal dislike for a great man who bluntly speaks his mind!.............. They were all hiding from the media to-day!

At least the Chief is taking the high road for now, obviously because he still has to do his job for the next 9 months or so.

But, what goes around, comes around!.......I hope that when the dust finally settles, Chief Fantino runs for Miller's job in the next Municipal elections and wipes him off the political map!

Or........

One of the biggest corruption scandals happened under Fantino's watch and he has yet to take any substantial action.

Time for a change.

The corruption scandals are hardly the fault of Fantino, Drunken Master, and apart from the immediate steps he took, what else should he have done??

David Miller obviously thinks it's time for a change....he probably feels he should have someone who will toe the NDP party line and crack the whip at the whim of the board etc.....

It will be interesting to see how the rank and file react to Miller's new appointee in due course......

Well, so long Julian, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Maybe some new blood is needed. And a little left wing blood might be good for the right wing extremists that are running the joint now.

As far as all the corruption scandals go, it's probably just the tip of the perverbial ice berg.

You had Bromell and his band of thugs

You had Ned Maodus and his band of thugs shaking down drug dealers and stealing.

And you had Bill McCormack jr. and his band of thugs.

You might not like to blame Fantino, but someone's got to take the fall for all of that, and it isn't going to be Miller.

My hat's off to Miller. Bring back Susan Ng I say.

James T has it right.

In addition to the corruption, how about the number of civilians being shot by police? Sure, the guy in the park had a knife. Three cops went in knowing the guy had a knife. End result?
The guy is dead - all three cops shot him. Where's the explanation? There never seems to be any explanation.

Why does every confrontation end with a dead guy? I'd say Fantino has lost control of the force.

I don't really think Miller's politics have anything to do with it.
The Chief has to appear to be in charge. The rank and file might not like it, but they have a responsibility to the Chief to make him look good, and they have made him look ineffective. So he's gone.

I didn't suggest he was at fault - but the buck stops at his doorstep. He can't possibly look askance at anybody who thinks we need a change.

I don't get this....in another thread you're saying that adscam was just a drop in the bucket and no big deal so what are we worried about? (i.e. you're not suggesting anyone 'take the fall' for it) but when it comes to someone that doesn't tow the left wing line you say hang em high

If a cop tells you to drop your weapon and you don't you have to know that the consequences are not likely to land in your favour. There's have been suggestions that cops should shoot to disarm or shoot a leg or an arm....This isn't tv. If a cop pulls his gun you have to assume that if you threaten him/her that they will use it. If they use a gun they are trained to shoot for the largest target. That is the chest. Use of a gun by an officer is treated as deadly force. i.e. cop's do not, nor should they, shoot to wound. If they are shooting the assumption is the target will suffer greivious injury or die

I can only remember Fantino having one response to all problems with crime: put more people in jail for longer time.

That is really not a very productive way of looking at the problems, especially ignoring social issues, weapons availability and the lack of rehabilitation in canadian prisons. They have tried that approach in the US, with the result that the US has more people in prison than any other civilized country.

Wasn't the police union guy front and centre in the corruption and not Fanrantino . Is he/unuion guy pals with Miller ?

I 'm not a fan of Fanrantino just ;cause he is the typical bureaucrat rather than a cop .

Didn't take lomg for this Millar guy to prove himself incapable of accomplishing anything .

Don't you just love politicians . ?

Big difference between dirty cops (of which there are many) and adscam.

I did not condone adscam, I said that Martin got in front of it, and took action.

Cops aren't supposed to be shaking down people, extorting money at the end of a gun, and blackmailing politicians. All of which happened under Fantino.

In the grand scheme of things, I am not all busted up about Fantino being turfed, no.

Maybe he will run for mayor some day and turf Miller, who knows.

In this case, the cops knew the guy had a knife when they went to the park.
There were three of them, one of him.
All three shot him. I have heard absolutely no background info on this.
This seems to happen far too often.

Something doesn't add up. Are we to accept that deadly force is ALWAYS
justified?

I think anytime anyone is killed by police there should be thorough investigation and complete disclosure of the facts as a matter of course.
