I just laugh when I hear the whole small business complaint. If business had it their way there would be no stat holidays, period!

I'm sorry but there's a hell of a lot more employees who would like a day off than there are employers whose main complaint is that they lose money. Boo-fucking-hoo!

Personally I think there should be 12 statutory holidays per year. That's one a month. Anymore and I think you start going a little too far. In Europe, sure. But North America is more work-centric so a day per month is about right.

Most Canadians get what, 2 or maybe 3 weeks vacation? And I'll bet dollars to donuts it's declining as the middle class shrinks and is replaced with service workers.

On top of all that, a lot of employers don't even have to recognize Family Day. If you already give your employees more than the statutory minimum, then you don't have to give Family Day. But giving more than is absolutely necessary would cut into your profits now wouldn't it.

Workers in this country get a lot less days off then European, or even american , counterparts.

Workers make ALL of the wealth.

Money changers are simply that.

This wealth, that the workers have, and only the workers have made, has been, and continues to be, distributed to less and less people, with less and less going to the workers who made it.

Wall street pimps just screwed us huge.

This, and the unfair distribution of wealth, is a huge part of the problem in IMHO.

No, it is not the workers who are at fault here, yet it is the workers ,time and time again, who pay the price for the greed of the few.


IMHO the workers should get it all, they are the ones that made it.

We give the wealth to money changers and look at the result.

Didn't they try this already in communist Russia and communist China? Let's learn from their experience and not try it here. Sorry to see Venezuela going communist. They will learn the hard way.

We could actually try a little experiment here on TERB. Take a successful escort agency. Get rid of the owners/managers. Put the worker bees (i.e. escorts) in charge. They keep 100% of your fee, no more 40% cut to the agency. Let's revisit this agency in 12 months.

Actually, I sympathize with small business. It is very difficult to run one with all the rules and red tape then the government changes the rules and you sink.

The wealth has been concentrated in fewer and fewer hands since Cowboy Reagan decided unfettered capitolism was the future of planet earth. But I do not think it has gone to small business, IMHO.

It has gone to money changers , corporate assh*les and the wealthy who invest the money with only greed and the desire to create more wealth in mind. As often as not, these investments do nothing for the cause of the working class or small business.

Hey. I should write a book. How about "Das Capital" as a working title?

Your little experiment reminds me of Orwells " Animal Farm" where the worker animals took the farm away from the pigs. By the end of the story you could not tell the pigs from the chickens from the horses etc.

Such seems to be the plight of human kind. Greed . Everything is greed. Satan's favorite vice, no doubt.

Capitolism, as bad as it is, is the best "ism" we have tried.


But wait, is not this what we have been told by those who profit the most?

Seriously, I am not saying there is or there is not a better way but I do not accept what those rich and in power -who also happen to control all of the estates of comunication- want us to believe as the ultimate truth, or even the truth as it exists today. My mind remains open in spite of efforts to close it.

Regardless of the system, there will always be the rich and powerful. Capitalism in a democracy is still the least of all evils. It is where meritocracy still generally prevails. Where else can the son of a poor immigrant become a millionaire and/or President of the country?

No, I say this and I definitely don't stand to profit much if at all. There are many people in my parent's home country who would give their left arm to live the life I live in Canada and it is not just economics, it is also human rights as well. Why do people swim 90 miles in shark infested waters to try to live in the U.S.? Why do people don't walk 5 feet to live in Russia?

Look, I agree that there are some systems that are a lot worse then what we got. I am not blind nor stupid, not that I am implyng you are.

However, when ever an alternative system is tried, even with the vote of the majority, the CIA destroys it without so much as a grunt form the press or the congress.

Central America is a great example of this.

Cuba is another. The USA has done all it can to destoy it militarily and with international blockcades even though the majority of cubans wanted it.

All I am saying, and I feel very confident in this, is that we are not told the unbiased truth by the estates of communication that are owned by those who wanted the central america democracy destoyed because they felt thier wealth was threatened by a few million peasants who were tired of starving while Chiquita Banana corp- ie the american fruit company - got rich from their bannanas.

The CIA will overthrow Venezuela next even though Chavez was elected democractically.

Exactly. "Sufficiently long time". Hell, I know people (several) who get 24 days of leave a year with only a year working for the federal government. I know of which I speak.

The Family Day holiday is a vast left wing conspiracy. When the commies take over, they first declare the 3rd Monday in February Family Day.
