One year in a prison cell with Brian Williams and Bill O'Rielly as cell mates. No entertainment - they just amuse each other with war stories.

(or one year permanent latreen duty at Camp Borden).
+1, doesn't even have to be latreen duty. Could be general cleaning around the base or some sort of kitchen duty. Punishment fits the crime.

I think an appropriate punishment would be a mandatory $1000 donation to some veteran's fund. Jail time is a bit much just for doing something like this.
^this.

Mess and general maintenance is done by civilian employees, it is not WWII where the idiots peel potatoes.

Grossly insulted who exactly? Anyone worthy of the medals is dead. We are all equal, military person is no better or b********** or smarter than anyone. So 7 days jail at our expense and counseling at his? I'd vouch for counseling at ours. Why would you jail anyone who is not a threat to the public or a flight risk? Barbarism.

I think the guy was a bit ignorant and naive. Probably didn't know it was against the law.

I don't think he meant to disrespect anyone, as he didn't desecrate the uniforms or the medals. But if you want desecration, here it is:

Some guy I know retired from the Army a number of years ago as a very senior NCO (the very highest NCO rank) in a regular infantry regiment, and donated his mess kit (mess uniform) and medals to a government owned museum. A couple of years later, he ran across a guy wearing it as part of a costume party. Now THAT was insulting.

Anyone who is not insulted probably doesn't realize how fortunate they are to live in Canada and how the Canadian fighting forces provided significant contributions during times of war. As far as the modern CF goes, you had a greater chance of being injured or killed in Afghanistan being a Canadian soldier than you did being an American. The ones who aren't offended by this guy are probably the same ones who aren't insulted if someone burns the Canadian flag.

He portrayed himself as an Airborne Pathfinder who was awarded the Medal of Brav.ery at a Remembrance Day ceremony. The informal rule to qualify for a Medal of Brav.ery is that you would have had to perform an act in which there was at least a 50% chance of you dying. That medal is not handed out for just showing up. I'd also bet my paycheque that no one who was not offended would be able to pass the Pathfinder course, let alone jump school.

I, for one, am not offended by flag burning. Beside the free speech issue, I am proud that my flag is worth burning.

I am not insulted, and I would give my life for Canada and my fellow Canadians. I also don't agree with burning the flag, but I love living in a country that is free and such stupidity is not against the law. It is what makes our country the greatest country in the world. We are free and live in peace. A sacrifice that was paid in blood. A sacrifice that we will always be greatfull for and never forget.

What was a crime was having Fucktino as minister of veteran affairs. The nerve of that retard to insult our veterans.

As for this poor guy he has a mental illness. He was shared on National News and everyone knows his lie. He has to live with himself and the realization that he is a nobody. That he can't be a soldier because he is crazy. Sad life if you ask me

You just don't get it. He didn't turn up in the uniform of the War of 1812 or even of 1900, he was making a serious attempt to be taken for a recent veteran or an active duty Sergeant. There is a reason why the law is on the books.
You make a persuasive argument. The law is on the books. Therefore there must be a good reason for it. Maybe one day you'll know what it is. In the meantime, I just don't get it.

COIN CHECK!!!
I'm still not offended by this guy, as he meant no offense.
He has some psychological or behavioural issues that need to be addressed.
And the proper way to dispose of a flag that is no longer serviceable is by burning, so if no offense was meant in that action, I take no offense to it, either.
