Cadillac is selling a miniscule 300,000 vehicles annually with most of the sales happening in China. So it is not a factor in the automobile market and doesnt have the funds to finance the $200 million entry fee. Plus the power unit will not be a Cadillac. So it seems it is just a marketing gimmick to increase visibility of the brand

I read somewhere that some baseball team owner is willing to pay the $200 million entry fee.

There was a Steinbrenner involved with Andretti in a lower formula a few years ago. I don’t know if he is still involved in any way at the moment. I’m sure he would have deep enough pockets but it’s still 4 years away and needs FIA approval so a lot can happen between now and then.

OK found the article referring to the $200 million entry fee. It's rumored the owner of the LA Dodgers is willing to pay it.

Cadillac marketing gimmickry confirmed. BBC reports: "GM will just put Cadillac's name to a car powered by a Renault engine. The appeal to Cadillac of paying to have its name promoted globally by F1 is obvious. It's a relatively cheap and easy way to gain significant publicity for the brand. But the idea that a rival manufacturer could benefit in that way when the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari are pouring hundreds of millions a year into F1 is less palatable to those already in the sport."

Mercedes and Ferrari may pour millions of dollars into the sport, the sport also pours millions of dollars into their pockets. Bet at the end of the day, the Teams collect more money than they put into the sport...just like one would expect. Thats a moot point to the BBC report.

Red Bull in the last few years has rebranded both the Renault and Honda Engines. Their money, they can call it what ever they like.

I am fine if they can fill the 24 spots on the grid, there are just 20 right now. Makes no difference if the car/team is backed by BMW, VW (parent company to Audi), GM, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai etc. The more competion the better.

Teams collecting more money than they put into the sport is called making a profit lol

Using Cadillac in the team name gives the (false) impression they are using a Cadillac engine while they will be piggy backing on a Renault engine. That is the gimmickry people are howling at. Its not like Red Bull which doesnt make cars. Or even McLaren which produces just about 2000 cars annually

Adam Driver will play Enzo Ferrari in a biopic coming out this fall. In the last Ferrari film, Ford vs Ferrari, Tracey Letts stole every scene he was in as Henry Ford II. He must be doing something right, he's married to Carrie Coon.

Matt Damon as Carol Shelby.

Ford vs Ferrari deals with 1962 and the 24 hr of Le Mans. The upcoming Enzo Ferrari biopic deals with 1957, when the bloom started coming off the Ferrari name. Enzo came out of racing retirement to take part in the Mille Miglia, a round trip race from Brescia to Rome and back. Adam Driver proved his cred with a stunning performance in Martin Scorsese's Silence.

I thought I read somewhere that this new team would use a competitors engine for the first few seasons, while he developed their own. I mean, GM has the means to develop something like this in-house. Don't other car makers do this in racing so they can create new tech that eventually filters down to the family sedan?

I checked for Montreal tickets last September, they were sold out. I'm not happy, checked the resale ticket market. I'm refuse to spend $1100 X2 on weekend passes. Don't get me started on hotels, good luck on getting a room in downtown Montreal for less than $700 per night on race weekend.
Back in the old days, 2019, we spent ~$3k for the weekend. VIA1, AirBNB near Notre Dame cathedral, race tickets, lots of great restos in in 514. It's really disappointing not to go to the race without dropping $8k. For that much $$, I'll go to the Ritz-Carlton in St. Lucia. I'll stay home and watch the race on tv.

Vowels to Williams, maybe he can make Williams great again.

Hope it will not be a repeat of when Paddy Lowes returned to Williams after his time at Mercedes
With the cost cap I think it's hard to meaningful impacts quickly. Williams better not think he will make a dramatic difference in a 1-2 year window.
