A mostly unknown historical fact: Soccer was invented by the Vikings, playing with the severed heads of englishmen.

You may be right, but everybody has been wrong all along. Iceland drew with Portugal and Hungary, and won over Austria and England.

One of their coaches is a dentist.
They also beat the Netherlands to quality for the Euro ahead of them.

I'm voting Antonio Conte for "manager of the year" LOL
Antonio Conte has a very forceful personality. He spoke with John Terry, he told him to retire and become his assistant. It's probably an offer Terry can't refuse, if he has coaching aspirations.

Conte brings it!

He surely got the Italian team to give a brilliant performance against Spain.

If they can keep it up, and Chiellini stays healthy, I think they will become champions.

That was a crazy game yesterday 2 red cards, fighting, crazy Empire. Argentina'a powerhouse could not score against Chile.
So Messi won't be around for Fifa? I doubt it
I hope he changes his mind. I want to see him play at least one more World Cup

Grazie no-so-Surly Dane but I'm taking this turned one match at a time, they still have to win La Svida Magne first. Btw anyone heard from Don Draper?

Reykjavik must be lovely this time of year.

I was amazed at how the Italian side demolished Spain. I am a little sad that this is maybe the last time we will see Iniesta in a major tournament.

I've been watching the games in La Habana, my esteemed colleague. I just recently returned.

Watching them in the rooftop patio of Hotel Ambos Mundos is a most enjoyable experience.

Would like to see Poland, Germany, Iceland and Wales all win though.
I would bet on Poland, Germany and Wales. Iceland's run has to stop sometime.

Let's keep to Copa Europa 2016 in this thread, my esteemed colleague. A most enjoyable thread although my team is now out of it. I can now watch the games more objectively though. History in not on Germany's side when it comes to playing the Azzurri. Conte has them in functioning form. Could history change on saturday?

If you'd like to visit the International section we can continue the discussion on Cuba there.

Trust me, as a German fan, I'm not oozing with confidence with Germanys chances against Italy.
The Italians seem to know how to work a clock, play as a unit, and conserve energy until the last 10min.

Don't know if Italy can be stopped.

Would like to see Poland, Germany, Iceland and Wales all win though.
It will be crazy if Iceland can win against France, I doubt it, but it will be crazy. :D

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Iceland could beat France, they are weak in the centreback position. If Verane had not gotten hurt playing for Real it would be a different story. The dark horse is Paul Pogba, if he goes into Beast Mode (Zidane) the French will win it all. He has the talent but does he have the will?

I hope Iceland beats them. (insert crazy loud horror movie laugh) Pogba is very good, they have Giroud, Greizmann, Evra and others that are good, its disappointing that the didn't do better but they can take it if they play well.
In the meantime today Portu-gallo against the Poles, with Mr Lewandoski.

Germany's chances of breaking the hex have significantly improved.

DDR is out, he joins Candreva on the injury list. Thiago Motta has a one game suspension. Meaning The Azzurri's destiny is in the hands of the 22 year old Raging Bull.

Stefano Sturaro: Gannaro Gattuso 2.0

I think it is too close to call. On a good day for Italy they will win, on a good day for Germany, they will win.

Candreva is a big loss, he played really well. I don't know about Eder, he missed that sure goal...I think Insigne is better. Then there is Stefano...
