I'm content with the tie, but obviously would have favored a win over Poland
Germany is playing it smart.
They are slowing down their play and reserving their strength for the knockout rounds.

All Germany has to do is knock in a goal or two in game 3, and they move on.
They could probably do that in their sleep.

If you ever watch big tournament countries like Italy, Germany or Brazil, what they do brilliantly is conserve their energy at the group stage, and then slowly pile it on in the knockout stages

No comparison.

Those Russian guys have no place in football. If the Russian authorities are congratulating them there should be no place for Russia either.

Now that English fans have clashed with police after rampaging in Lille and attacks on local residence, it appears to shed new light on who might have been the real instigators in Marseilles (in other words the same fans that have been the major problem every other time the past 30 years)

Depends, was that before or after Brazil conserved themselves into an early exit from the Copa America preliminaries?
Brazil brought their B-team to this years Copa though

Stupid drunk fans.

Doesn't make them the instigators though. Those Russians are seriously bad.

Most of the seriously bad English fans can't travel as their passports have had too be surrendered.

UK is not in the passport free Schengen zone. So travelling in the EU is not so easy for the brits, especially for those without passports.

AS far as I remember, known football thugs have to register at police stations periodically whilst these kind of tournaments and other key matches are on.

Football violence in the EPL is now quite low. It's other countries that present far worse problems with their 'ultras' in neo-fascist sympathisers.

You are right, I totally forgot that Brits still need their passport

The question being asked is: was Bonucci's challenge a penalty, on paper - yes. Was he attempting to injure - no. It was up to the referee's discretion.

If Marek Hamsik is the proto-Trequartista, Iniesta is Trequartista Rex.

The match today was bit of a snorefest. Italy and Sweden have had a love affair since Ingrid Bergman married Roberto Rossellini. And through the years numerous Swedish players have made an impact in Italy: Neils Liedholm, and Gunnar Nordhal are Serie A legends.

The match didn't chance until Raging Bull came in for DDR. After the match was over the fans exchanged shots of akvavit and grappa singing ABBA songs.

Kathleen, time is the great equalizer.

When I was young people thought me strange because I was fanatical about David Bowie and Black Sabbath equally. These days I'm still devoted to DB and Sab but I've come to appreciate the genius of ABBA. You gotta admit those Swedish lasses look awesome in their CFM boots.

Minnows Iceland almost beat Hungary but an own goal late in the game had them settle for a single point.

Congratulations to the Welsh, they got the job done. With The Dark Knight they have the best player in the tournament and should easily get through to the quarter finals. As for England their road will be more bumpy - especially if Portugal don't win their group.

Let the games begin!

I would rather The Azzurri face Spain instead of Croatia.

The Italians don't play well against former Yokoslav teams. And Croatia has 4 Serie A players in their starting lineup, Unter's Ivan Perisic has been the best player after The Dark Kinght so far. Gli Azzurri and La Furia have lost generational players: Pirlo and Xavi. Conte chose not to replace Pirlo, going with a five man pressing midfield instead. Also he hasn't played all his cards yet, Insigne hasn't seen game action yet.

Like Tony Soprano says, "Revenge is a dish served with cold cuts" - I'm loading up on the capecol.
