Probably best remembered for the 60's sitcom McHale's Navy but earned an Oscar nod for the 50's movie "Marty",

Not to forget, he won the Academy Award for best actor in 1955 for Marty. The film is kind of dated now, but he deserved the award. It made his career.

As an aside, I have a friend you recently worked with EB on a TV piece and interviewed him. EB attributed his long working life to frequent masterbation.

Ernest Borgnine and Burt Lancaster were close friends, it was the later's production company that got Marty into theaters. He's done a wide variety of roles but I've always liked his tough guy roles the best.
