I saw Star Wars-Episode II at midnight last night. I know I'm going to sound like a geek for this, but OH MY GOD! This was the best movie I have ever seen! George Lucas has learned his lesson from Episode I, and made this true to what Star Wars is supposed to be. I just hope this movie beats Spider-Man for the biggest opening gross of all time. BTW, I don't even want to get into the Star Wars-Star Trek debate.

Here
Episode II vs. Spidey

It is highly unlikely that Clones will beat Spidey simply because it is opening are far fewer screens. Also, the pre-release negative buzz surrounding the film may keep the non-geeks home for a week or two until they hear first hand reviews.

I saw the original on ITS opening night, so I'll be sure to see Clones, but I'll wait until the crowds thin out.

well I was gonna skip it, but since they cut NSYNC and there's no JarJar (I think) I'll consider it.

Another Lucas Turkey?

Just saw a review in that subway give-away paper that wasn't very positive. And here's part of today's Globe & Mail review:

"For any but the most avid Star Wars wonks, watching Attack of the Clones is like getting rapped on the head with a rubber mallet -- no lasting damage (I pray and hope), but bad enough to bring on an acute bout of dizziness and disorientation. Definitely do not operate heavy machinery after viewing -- this behemoth is brutal."

I'll take a pass on this bird.

Globe's usually pretty reliable with reviews, unlike the other dailys in this here town. Then again, they gushed over Spidey, and while I thought it was pretty good, I didn't think it merited all of the praise it's received.

I don't even want to get into the Star Wars-Star Trek debate.
I'll try really hard to resist. Say, that wasn't hard at all.

Saw Episode II again today, And I must say, this is as good as Episode V, IMHO.
Thank you George Lucas.

break out the watermelons and the mozza balls!

I thought Episode I was a major dissapointment, Liam Neeson was the only reason why I didn't walk out of the theater. Yes folks, I was THAT bored.

George Lucas was attempting to make a 50's Saturday afternoon matinee, he succeeded. The parade of racial stereotypes never seemed to end. You had your Buckwheat, your sneaky conniving Orientals, your Italian-American flesh mongering mafioso, your Jewish Princess; I half expected to see Buggs Bunny show up to nip the Nipps.

I guess Daphne Zuniga is too old to revisit her Jewish Princess role, so they gave us Natalie Portman instead. Only problem with her is that she's not funny and she's agonizing to watch. Can someone so lifeless really be the moma of the spunky Princess Leia?

I'm afraid George is about to make a mockery out of my favorite character, Darth Vader. The earlier episodes worked so well because the James Earl Jones/David Prowse duo carried so much of the tension with them. The young Anakin is far too pretty to make me believe that he can actually morph into such an awesome character.

Maybe Mel Brooks should direct Episode III.

Archie - Sully and I iz pals for life, when we wuz fightin in Italy he dived on a grenade tossed into our foxhole. He saved my life!

Meathead - Arch, a grenade. How did he survive?

Archie - It was a dud, just like everything else those pasta fazu's make.

I too saw Clones on opening night. I have to say it was totally awesome. Episode I was a bit of a disappointment; but not so with Episode II. Definitely a movie you want to see on the big screen. And some of the outfits they have Natile Portman in... alone they make it worth seeing the moive.

In the minority

I saw Episode II midnite Wednesday looking quite forward to another stellar movie by the great Lucas.

Alas, I must sadly report I was a tad disappointed by the film. Unlike most of you, I found the story to be better in episode I. I felt there was a lack of continuity and character development in the second film. Too many scenejumps and lack of worthy script. In fact, I found that they basically reworded much of the script from the first film. Obi Wan's berating of Ani was funny the first time, but became really annoying the more it went on. Too many love scenes for my liking. Hayden Christensen does a very good job portraying the growing but still immature Anakin. All other acting was either non-existent or sucky.

My highlights (without giving away too much) were:
1) Shmi-related scenes
2) Janga/Cloning race scenes
3) Dooku end scene (of course!)

Overall, i give Episode II a 7/10 while i give Episode I 8.5/10.

PS. What was Lucas thinking casting Sammy Jackson as Mace?? He stuck out like a sore gangrenous thumb! Was almost as bad as Jar Jar in Episode I if u ask me!

Where's the complication?

It essentially comes down to Lord Sidious playing everyone off each other.....who's the man!?! He is, he is!

i also saw episode 2 on opening night ... (maybe we should have had the terb party at the theatre ....

the film had some good action sequences, but suffered from trying too hard to move the narrative towards where we begin in episode 4.

the film, does, however, echo a number of lines and sequences from the first trilogy, to establish resonances amongst the lives of these characters and those of the next generation. they were worth a laugh.

the biggest problem with the last two films is that they are devoid of the banter and character interaction that marked the original star wars. the current characters have no spark.

i think lucas would have been happier directing just the droids and leaving the humans out of the digital universe completely ....

I agree totally with this comment.

Am I the only one here who thinks Episode 2 isn't a good movie ???

Here's another problem:
The villains aren't menacing enough. I really don't care for Count Dooku, his scenes aren't scarey and I found him to be flat and boring. With Darth Vader, you knew he was a bad-ass b/c he blows up Alderon, choked lots admirals, killed Obi-wan, tortured Princess Leia, carbonized Han Solo, and he did it all while appearing to be extremely menacing.

Fix these two problems and I'd be more interested.
Avid Star Wars fans will like this movie, but I didn't.

Take care,
Cloud
