Here
I was talking with a friend of mine last week who is a middle manager at one of the grocery chains here in Canada. He said that the major chains are keeping their high end stores shelves well stalked at the expense of the lower end stores like No Frills and Food basics because the margins are higher. I didn't give this much thought until I was shopping today and noticed how many empty shelves there were. Things like tortilla chips, coffee, soda water, and even some brands of milk were simply not there. I asked a clerk about this who said he hadn't some of there items in days or even weeks. I decided to make a trip to a loblaws near me just to see if this was the case and sure enough every shelf was full with lots of everything. What do you guys think of this.

I've noticed that Food Basics that I go to has some empty shelves but mostly in the cereal isle.. There is a small family owned grocery store I also go to and they have the same issue with cereal.

Kelloggs workers were on strike before Christmas and production is behind so we are seeing the effects of it now.

The problem would be much worse if Richard Peddie hadn't blocked the Weston's from buying up Steve Stravro's land properties. They already own Loblaws, President's Choice, Value Mart, No Frills and Fortinos. Imagine the gouging they'd be doing if they cornered the groceries market.

Mr. Peddie isn't as incompetent as I thought he was.

Actually, Loblaws is currently in a pricing dispute with Frito Lays. FL wants Loblaws to pass along cost increases to consumers but Loblaws is resisting and trying hold prices where they are. FL is not shipping to Loblaws at the moment.[/QUOTE]
