They just need the optics and the narrative.
His involvement in government is the height of corruption. So clearly he cannot be working against himself here lol.

To be as generous as I can be here, given that there is almost certainly some corruption in the system that they don't already have their hands in, he may well find something to point to.
Especially if involves someone they think isn't playing ball or on their team, they will be happy to reveal that since it will be a useful weapon.

We've seen Elon do "exposes" before, and it is mostly bullshit.
There isn't much reason to think anything he releases will hold up to much scrutiny.

The one thing we know he isn't doing is working against corruption.
